Quick question guys. Gander Mountain has Smoker Hollows on sale for $129.00. They have both gas and electric smokers. What type do you guys recommend. I would rather go with gas but I am concerned about not being able to get low enough heat. With the electric I am afraid that I wont be able to get the temp high enough. I have a charcoal smoker and I am struggling with have to watch it so often. What are your thoughts between the two smokers. Thanks for you help.

I have seen those at Gander and that sounds like a good price. If I recall, the electric model had a better door fit and seemed more "sturdy" than the gas model. The gas model was "flimsy" with a door that, in my opinion, would have a tough time retaining smoke, let alone any kind of consistent heat.

Plus, with electricity, you'll never run out of fuel to heat the darn thing mid-cook. That is, unless you forgot to pay your electric bill!

I bought the gas smoker and I put it together and was seasoning it and the lowest I could get the temp was 250 with the damper fully open. Does anyone know if their is a way to get the temp down to 185? the front door on mine holds the smoke in good.
Thanks
Mike

yes, there is a ball valve you can get that lowers the flame... look in the cooking section... i believe it is in a thread by slick fishing.
