Just curious if anyone hunts the state land near lake dubonet for rabbits?

I have a beagle/terrier mix that flushed a few rabbits durring our afternoon walk yesterday. i have been walking him through the same trail/2-track for almost a year now and he has never shown much of and interest in the woods. he normaly just walks by my side and enjoys his walk.

Yesterday about ten minuites into our walk we came across some rabbit scat in the snow, i spotted it when we were about ten feet out and as we walked past my dog sniffed it for a moment and then took off into the woods head down tail in air. 2 min later a rabbit flys across the trail with my dog chasing. He flushed 2 more rabits durring our walk yesterday.

Aside from carying my 20ga on our walk from now on whare do i go from here if i want to hunt rabbit.

I brought the gun along for the walk today and seen no rabits.

Not much in the way of rabbits/hares around that area. You'd be better off finding some jackpine stands over in Kalkaska County.

And how the heck would ya know that livin' out there in Iowa?......

It's always good to see you Jeff. How's thing going for you out there?

Did you sell your house up here?

As for the topic at hand that Jumpshootin' guy is giving you the straight skinny on rabbit hunting in that area. You'll need to find stretches of denser, lower to the ground cover for bunnies. It sounds like your dog (breed?) has promise so I'd get him into areas with a higher rabbit population and let him/her work the track out.

Hi Milt. Life is good out here. I'm doing fairly well on the pheasants even without having the dogs out here yet. Haven't hunted SD yet even though it's only 20 miles away. I'll wait until next season when I have the dogs with me.
The ex-wife got the house & debts. I got the deer camp property over in Kalkaska free and clear. I have it for sale now. When/if it sells I have a nice down payment on a place out here.
