What are we gonna do? I can deal with any conditions, but wind sucks! I seen a bunch of deer yesterday and even had a nice 8 or 10 come by as he was chasing a doe (he was'nt right on her at the time, he was taking a different trail parrallel to hers). I pulled back and waited for him to come through an opening and when he did I made the er noise and he did'nt stop, so I made it louder and he still did'nt stop and by that time he was out of my shooting lane. I'm still going to go out this afternoon. It just seems useless to hunt most of the day because of this stinking wind! I hate it. It really shuts down deer movement and you can't hear any. I had a doe yesterday magically appear right in front of me, lucky I was'nt moving at the time.

I agree, I hate hunting in the wind, but you have to be out there in the rut.

The wind does seem to shut things down quite a bit, but 20 feet in the air on a 15 inch trunk with 20 mph winds is always a wild ride.

I hunt in the wind, rain, sleet, etc. Yeah the wind bothers the deer, but they still move. So as long as your safe go for it.

Once I hunted in a sleet storm, fell asleep in my stand secured by a chest harness tied really high to help keep me upright. When I awoke I was covered in 5" of snow and ice. Like a dream I thought I was seeing deer passing through windows of trees but when I would try to see, they were gone. It was the rut in 1994 and it was really crazy active during the day just after the sleet stopped. When I finally figured out that the deer were doing circles around my stand running full speed I grunted a buck in and a few minutes later I shot a nice 8-pt.

I'd much rather be out hunting in 12mph breezes like we've had in recent days than dead still conditions. When it's still, it's tough to play the wind, as air currents move every which way. And my personal observations are that deer are very spooky when it's quiet and still. I like a nice, predictable wind.

Perhaps it's odd, but this year, the hunts where I've seen the most deer have been windy evenings, like last night.
