Drove by Lake Cadillac tonight. Looks like it is mostly froze over. Also saw where someone walked on the lake and drilled a few holes, but only 5-10 feet offshore. It is getting closer.

Just so this is clear I am not advising anyone to go out and try fishing yet. I could still see spots of water out on the ice. A few more weeks of cold temps and maybe we can get out.

There was still open water as of 4oo yesterday ducks were in the water and the bald eagles were in the trees looking for a easy meal

A little off subject, but a couple of years ago I saw a small plane land on the ice while I was fishing there. Didnt know what to think, kind of a different experience, any of you guys ever see that?

Saw first when I was a kid fishing Saginaw Bay out of Linwood: would have been in early 70's (Gawd, I'm getting old:yikes:). Last time was two years ago, plane on skids landed and took off from Lake Ovid north of Lansing. Looked pretty cool, but I have to believe it was a hard landing.

I saw a plane land on the ice while I was fishing on Lake Mitchell a few years ago. I got a great view because it landed only 200 - 300 yards away from me. Later in the day, I actually met the owner of the plane (a local guy) who was an avid ice fisherman. He would take 1 or 2 guest along with him on his trips and they would ice fish several lakes in one day.

Planning a weekend next week up there, wondering if any ice on either? If so, how's the fishing?

On the 30th Lake Mitchell was froze over and Cadillac had some open water still. I saw two guys that had tip ups out and they where standing on shore watching them. It is a little to early for me but after a week or too it should be good.

I really do not know how thick it was, but I know you would not catch me out there yet. I will play it safe and wait a few weeks.

Here is a report for the lakes...... http://www.pilgrimvillagefishing.com/fishingreport.html

As of today there is still some open water in the middle on Cadillac. They are fishing close to shore on the south western side of the lake. Just talk to a guy and he said the there is 2 to 4 inches where he was fishing. Not long now
