View Full Version : Bismuth Shot
Anyone out there shooting Bismuth? Is the cost worth it, I like trying new things BUT there is a limit.
I heard about a new shell coming out this year, a steel, tungston mix. Should be a little kinder to your wallet.
I have shot geese and ducks, and they both fold just as easily with Steel as I do with Bismuth. For smaller gauges, like the 16 and smaller, I really think that the Bismuth would really be a lot better than steel. Good Luck, Zak.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some Kent Tungsten-matrix last year. ("Impact")
It really folds them right up. (when I hit).
I am really working on my shot-gunning this summer. I missed more than my fair share this year, and if it were $1.75- 2.00 going out the barrel every time, OUCH!
I do believe that there is enough performance there, (in a skilled hunters gun of course), to warrant it's use. I mean, ultimately it is the pellets that are going to bring down the bird, right?

I bought a box of 16 gauge loads a few years ago, as I was extremely disappointed with the performance of steel 16 gauge loads. I was awestruck! Almost everything I hit came down dead! While it is expensive, and I still use steel for the majority of my waterfowling, I think bismuth definetly has a place, especially with double barrel and thin walled barreled guns and the smaller gauges, such as the 16 and 20 gauge

I have used the Bismuth Shot in my flintlock Tradegun as well as reloadedit for the 12 and 16 sXs. With out a doubt it outperforms the steel and is well worth the cost. I find when I hit them they come down "doorknob dead"
