Does anyone have experiences with guides in the Arkansas area? I would like to book time in the second season maybe this year.

I have heard good and bad, but no actual recommendations as to who to contact or who to avoid. I would love to get a LATE Dec, or early Jan. hunt! I know that some of the guides claim to have private spots, but then just dump you on Federal land because "my usual spot is hunted out". Some of the lodges run $350 (+/-) per night. Lodging, hunt, guides, dog, meals all inclusive, but its still a pretty penny.

RealDcoy, I've hunted Arkanas the last two years in January. 1st year, a private club but the timber was froze up so we didn't shoot many birds. Last year we hunted public water with a guide, $100 bucks a day. We absolutly killed them, 98 ducks in 3 days, 6 hunters. We are going to the same place this year. It's the Dave Donaldson WMA in N.E. Arkansas. Don McFall is the guides name. Black River Mallards Guide Service. Don't be shy about hunting public water, when the mallards are in, it doesn't matter where you are..... Good luck

I talked to a guy that hunted a WMA and said that they had shot rain on them twice. I'm not concerned so much as to the availability of birds, but as to safety and true enjoyment of the hunt.

Thanks for the recommendation though, and I will factor it into my plans. Maybe a day or two with a guide and a day or 2 with a club?
