View Full Version : good ice fishing lake near Detroit
Hi guys,
I'm new to Detroit and it will be my first winter here. I've been lurking around the forum for a while and it seems like Lake St. Claire is a good ice fishing lake. But how about some smaller ones? Would Ford Lake be good? I'm not asking for specific spots, just general preferences. I'm mainly interested in perch, northern pike and such.
Thanks so much for any advice.

Where do you live and how far are you willing to drive?
I've fished Ford Lake a few times, not impressed personally. I think it depends on what your looking to catch as far as where you want to go, a noobie can't beat marina's though- Bryon

Yeah, there are hundreds of smaller lakes to fish, so, it all depends on what you are going for, where you live, and how far you are willing to drive.
Yeah, St.Clair is a good spot, but, there are many spots on that lake to fish cause it's so huge.

While I have not ice fished either Ford or Belville I have seen numerous people out there the past (both are about 5 minutes from my house). I have fished both in the summer months and there are lots of fish in both.
I have fished Portage in Waterloo for bass and have had good luck but have not ice fished there either. We ice fish out on Lk St Clair and depends on the day but you can do very well there.
