I have some buddies in the UP and I havent had a chance to talk to them lately. I was wondering what the deer harvest rate is up there. They would be in trout lake. just a rough estimate. How much snow is up there?

thanks,

Pat

The bridge this morning at around 9 am had a deer count that was down 30 or 40 percent from last year at the same time. It's early, so we'll see in the end.

As for snow, the Eastern U.P., at least in Mackinaw county, only had about 2 inches or so. There were parts up by Lake Superior that I am sure got dumped on.

Deer numbers seemed down for us this year, but that's to be expected with the tough winter last year.

Opening day I heard maybe a dozen shots, half of that the second day. Monday morning we woke up to 14" of lake snow and deer movement nearly stopped. No shots this morning.

At least in my area we had very poor fawn recruitment last year. That translated to very few 1 1/2 year old bucks running around. Through the fall I've seen twice as many 2 1/2 year olds as yearlings.

Snow as of this morning.

Rudyard 6" Estimate by looking.

Fibre 14" Measured at my camp.

Hulbert 3"-4" Camp visit last night

Chatham (alger county) got 18 inches of snow. Which amounted to zero deer at our camp and the half dozen camps I spoke too had no success either. So I would say the u.p. harvest in our area is down over 75%. Hopefully dnr's qdm works for the u.p.

When I crossed the bridge Monday night they said that the numbers were up.

That's good! A lot of people must have left for home Monday then. I was across the bridge pretty early when the numbers were down.

As usual when we came back over the bridge they didn't even ask if we got a deer or not:confused:And yes we had bucks so I put little faith in there count.

Ditto, plus, there were no signs when we crossed indicating the count.

Oh Around trout lake, we got about 18-20 inches of snow one night, wed, the 20th I think, another 15 inches were predicted.
