Dombrowski on The Huge Show: Tigers can't afford to pursue Francisco Rodriguez

by The Grand Rapids Press Tuesday November 11, 2008, 10:30 PM

Tigers president Dave Dombrowski joined Bill Simonson on "The Huge Show" to talk about his plan for Detroit in the offseason, including a potential upgrade to the bullpen that won't include free agent closer Francisco Rodriguez.
"In the K-Rod case, what he's advertised out there what he's looking to have as a free agent ... I don't think we're in a position where we're going to compete and pay him those dollars," Dombrowksi said. "A lot of our people here need to step up and do the job for us. Right now, it's a wide-open bullpen."

Its too bad the Tigers got themselves over a barrel, money wise. He would be a good pick up.

I laughed at his quote:

A lot of our people here need to step up and do the job for us.

It would be nice if they did, sure. But all the hope in the world is not going to make a mediocre or worse bullpen be good, just because someone "steps up".

That's the best news I've heard this off season. I wouldn't mind seeing them getting involved in the Furcal dealings.
