I myself like to take my 870 remington and my 50cal cva. my 870 is for the closer or deer in motion type affect but for a feeding deer i just love to touch off the smokepole. Plus the 870 makes it nice if i need a follow up. Just looking to see if i'm the only one who carries to much fire power.

For sitting, can't beat the .30-.30. It has that "reach out and touch it", thing going on. For walking, it's the 12 guage with .00 buck...down hoime it's the Thompson Omega 50 cal

In our camp we will have:
1. Winchester 30-06
2. Remington 7mm rem mag
3. Browning 7mm rem mag
4. Marlin 30-30
As a back up, I will bring my 870 slug gun. Other back up weapons include a BAR in 30-06, an AK-47, and more 12 guages than you can shake a stick at.
I told my buddy he may be drummed out of the UP if he tried to hunt with an AK-47 on opening day. It just seemed un-American. He relented and has agreed to hunt with a 30-30 instead.

I never understood the logic of taking multiple guns in the woods. By all means if you enjoy it then knock yourself out. To me it's just one extra thing to carry and one extra thing to think about. When a shooter buck shows up I want all my attention to be focused on killing him not trying to figure out which gun to pick up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the law state that you are only allowed to take one firearm into the field with you while hunting?
Used to bring a Remington 300 Win Mag along with a Ruger 9 mm but ever since I bought a Thompson Encore Black Powder thats all I hunt with. I love that gun in the last 2 years I killed a 8 and 10 pt in Michigan and a 21 pt non typical in Missouri all out over 100 yds.:D

Nope, you can take as many as you choose to carry as long as they are legal for the season.

You can have as many firearms as you want as long as each one individually is legal for that type of hunting.

I'll be carrying my great-grandfather's .32 win special, and I'll be packing either my .357 or my .40 (haven't decided yet). The sidearm is for a finishing shot if needed, as well as general protection and a warm & fuzzy feeling. Once I shoot a deer with the .32, it will go into the safe until my son is old enough to use it, and I'll be carrying my stainless abolt medallion .270.

From the DNR website FAQ:
Q. How many firearms may I legally carry while firearm deer hunting?
There is no restriction on the number of firearms that you may carry.

Marlin .35 is all i need! I want to hunt with my Remington 1100 with the slug barrel i bought few years back, but i've never sighted it in.
If i feel like a nancy man i might get out the 30-30 and use that due to it having a scope on it.
It'll probably end up being old Iron Sites model 336 marlin for me this year. It was my grandpa's gun and he whacked so many deer with it in his time.

1- S&W 460 magnum

11-12-2008, 10:45 AM
I am taking-
1. Ruger 77 bolt in 7x57 mauser for stand hunting
2. Winchester model 88 lever in .243 for still hunting
3. Browning a-bolt in .270 WSM for a backup.
Both the 7x57 and .243 are new to me as of last/this year. The .243 I got off the friend of the family, her husband passed away and was the owner of it. He bought it brand new in 1966 (i have the box from JCPenney for the sum of $64.00) and never shot a deer with it. I'm hoping to break it's cherry this year. ;)

I can understand haing a side arm or maybe a shotgun with a muzzle loader. Why on earth would you have 4 guns in a blind? I think someone needs to hit the range a little more! Now i know why it sounds like WW3 out there. "Lets unload 4 guns woorth of ammo at that deer running full bore across the field at 200 yds!":dizzy:

I usually take my Mossberg 500 12 guage out in the morning when I'm sitting still. Later in the day, when I decide to do some hiking, I usually switch over to my 870 Express Magnum Youth 20 guage. Both have rifled barrels and are dead on at 100 yards, but the Youth model is much smaller and lighter. Both guns have killed everything they've shot, but for some reason the 20 guage is the only one that ever sees the bucks.

I had the same thought reading through some of the responses. I'm giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and assuming these are the guns they are taking to hunt for their time at camp, not what they'll be hauling out with them every day (I hope). If so, most of these guys would be giving Rambo a run for his money. Also, it's no wonder that in another thread guys are saying they'll be in their blinds by 4:30 am. If they have to carry 50 lbs. worth of guns, along with all their other crap, they are going to need to take a nap, change clothes, and spend about an hour situating all their arsenal.

I agree as well, for a long time I used a single shot 410 shotgun with rifled slugs and scope, it was extremely accurate to 100 yards. Everyone laughed at me for a little gun and single shot when they packed multiple shells in to semi-auto 12gauge. Precision, Precision, Precision. If you are dead-on, one shot is all you need.
A few years ago I went on a "drive" against my better judgment and watched a moron unload his 12 gauge at the running deer hitting it in the back hip and who knows where else. We tracked it for miles through rivers, hills, etc. Found it with multiple slugs embedded in non-lethal areas.
Nothing against everyone posting here, but I figure one bullet is about all you need.

 I gave the same benifit of the doubt to previous posts, except I believe there was one post where a guy said he has 4 guns sticking out the blind window - I assume he was joking. However, I am up in my tree ( I climb, so it takes a few) by 5 AM.

Agreed. A lot of people say my firearm is overkill ($700 Scope.. Etc) But, I just like to do it right the first time. If I am going to take a 300Yd shot, I know I have the gun to do it properly.

my grandpa has 4 guns pokin' out of the blind at one time. one for each window. each window looks out into a lane.
I personally would rather use one gun, because all of the guns would get in the way, but he uses it as an excuse to use as many of his guns as possible. He jokes that they'll get sad if they don't get used.

Nothing wrong with overkill as long as your not the type of "hunter" who thinks he can just shoot until *something* falls down.

I am sitting here in amazement after reading this. This will be my 41st opening day and it has never ever occurred to me to take more than one gun in the woods. I try every year to cut down the amount of stuff I carry to the blind. I do take two guns to camp every year. One for the tower stand with 200+ yard shots, a Weatherby in 7mm mag. The other is for still hunting, a pre 64 model 94 in trusty 30-30.
