I'am strongly considering equiping my 6000G with a universal charge bar does anyone else use one? I understand that a grain scale is required. IS a universal practical and user friendly? I plan to begin to strectch my reloading horizons.

Song Dog,

I have a universal on my 650. Yes you need a powder scale, because the charts are not exact. It takes some time to get it set up for each load. You have to weigh the powder and shot to make sure its accurate, each time you change it. I had some trouble with it dropping consistent charges. I would weigh the first 10 - 15 and it seemed like they were a bit variable. However, I am not sure if they are that different from the regular charge bars. I have never checked there consistency. I liked being able to try several different loads w/ out running to the store for a new bushing or charge bar. If I were going to do a lot of boxes ( for clays or something) I would buy a bar and bushing. If you load a few boxes of several different kinds of loads, I would say its a good investment.I can load anything in my book withou worrying about bushings and bars. For 25.00 I like it.

Song dog,

Its been a while since I bought it. What I think they mean by the powder baffle is this. ITs a small cylinder that screws on the bottom of your powder container. Then the baffle screws to the top of your reloader. Inside the baffle there are 2 steps. The powder then falls into the bar a little slower than normal. These steps are supposed to provide more consistent powder charges. I think its a good idea, not too sure how well it works. I always have it on. Certainly cannot hurt.

I have installed the Universal Charge Bar and it works well, I load shot charges from 1 to 1/38 Oz. The powder baffle seems useful although unproven. I reloaded 22 boxes yesterday with an average powder deviation of less than 1.25%. Song_Dog is pleased
