I think I'll try to pop a few this winter. I've seen a few incidental hares in the Pigeon River Country. Is the population decent enough to make a trip up?

Big population over there this year...best in years, I'll bet. They were running all over the place in June, one sat in the middle of the road licking the calcium chloride that the road commission had put down and I couldn't move without running him over, so a bunch of us jumped out and took pix of him. He just sat there. A young one. That was in June.

Tough to get there, and not cheap, but worth it. I only know of a couple of people that hunt them over there.

I haven't seen any around here in about 20 years. I'm about 35 miles west of the PR.

I swear I saw one in Oscoda county last week while grouse hunting. It was a huge rabbit, looked like at least 3 times the size of a cottontail, and was mottled in color - mostly brown, but looked like it had some patches of white especially on its ears and rump. Only saw it for a second, but it could not have been a cottontail....
