Nimrod;
There are two methods of determining the BC (ballistic coefficients) of a bullet. For those who don't know, the BC is a number that is ascribed to a bullet to determine a bullets ability to "fly", i.e. overcome the forces of gravity, drag, ect. The closer the BC is to one, the better its ability to "fly".
One method, and the most accurate, is by direct means of firing tests, firing bullets and measuring thier flight, ect, and placing the data into a computer program and letting the computer calculate the data.
the most common method is to compare the bullet to a "point shape chart" (I have never seen one), and there is a number attached to each "point shape". That number is then divided by the sectional density of the bullet to get the BC. This method was developed by Dupont engineers in the 1930's, and is somewhat of an industry standard. Hope this helps.
