Also dummy me forgot to check to see which wire was connected as the tail light, and which the blinker. :\

Don't you have lights on both sides of the trailer? Or am I missing something?

I know but the wires coming from the light housing are brown and red. It ended up brown to brown and yellow to red.

no it's a smaller trailer.. grandpa says you only need left side
It's his trailer but if the case is that you are required to have both left and right, which makes more sense to me, then I will get on that ASAP
but it's been with just 1 side for probably 30+ years and i've been pulling it for 4 or 5 years and haven't had a problem..
And you guys were right, the shorter, thicker element is the brighter one.
I managed to get a hold of a bulb and try it both ways..

Grandpa was probably right, I got curious and looked it up and from what I read, if the trailer is 2500 lbs or less, you don't need both turn signals.
Interesting.

Yup, the laws in Michigan and Ohio vary greatly. Heck, in Wisconsin you don't even need a trailer plate under a certain weight, it just has to be registered.
As for being sold one side or the other... if you break one backing into something or have one busted mysteriously at the ramp (and we all WILL have one or the other happen to us at some point or another) would you want to HAVE to buy both sides? I'm looking at our trailer light display right now... both LED's and standard incandesant lights sold in pairs and singles every day. Want just the bulb? Got it. Want to convert to LED (which I HIGHLY recomend) we can do that to. Having a choice is what it's all about.

The laws in MI and the Buckeye are pretty much the same as to the single light..
