With the "new" year almost here, I was just wondering what "new" products or techniques you reloaders out there were planning on trying this year: reloading a "new" powder or bullet?; reloading for a "new" cartridge?; reloading a "new" wildcat?; how about a "new" technique, like reloading steel or bismuth shot? This year, I am experimenting with reloading slugs (12 gauge) and shotshell blanks (for dog training). Well, thats it....hope you will all keep us posted with the "news"....take care and happy "new" year!

I'am going to begin reloading steel shot(I reload lead currently). Santa has added a MEC Steelmaster to my reloading bench(bless her soul!). For a while I was convinced the only way to kill geese and ducks was with a super heavy load of Federal Tungsten thrown from my Benelli Super Black Eagle. Recently a friend had convinced me, in the field(duckboat actually)that steel can be an effective load and that the need for $2.70/shell tungsten was more physcological than fiscally practical. SO I'll begin testing some steel loads at the skeet field as early as next week. I still believe more is better including more veloctiy. If anyone could drop some do's and don't(s) on the "Steel Reloading"post it would be greatly appreciated. Currently the bench is stocked with the MEC, Alliant steel powder and hulls of various make and length and a couple of thousand 209's. I do have reloading data for steel from a couple of sources.Thanx in advance.
This fall at Fish Point area #23 I was witness to a canada goose shot at, I'm going to guess and say, 70yds(+ or-)with a load of steel BB in a 2-3/4 hull. That goose fell dead as they come.
On another occasion I was witness to a goose shot with steel,in a field set, he fell 73 paces from where the shooter laid his blind. Proof once again shot placement is paramount, we found 1 BB right in the gooses head. Luck maybe! A calculated lead steady swing and even follow through on the shot is more likely. I still kid "Ron" and tell him it was luck!

This year I am trying a new 38/357 load with 148 grain lead wad-cutters. As I usually load to the max. with my other handguns, I am going to try to load to a comfortable level....<grin>
