I was wondering how many of us harvested deer this year with our reloads and what are the specs of your successful rounds? I harvested 3 deer this year, 2 with: 165 hornaday BTSP, H4831 powder (58.5 gr), federal primers, and bras that I bought at an online auction. 1 with: Hornaday BTHP molly, 58.5 H4831, Federal primer, and brass from an auction. I feel that due to reloading, I shot my rifle a LOT more and was therefore very confidant in my shots. The deer that I harvested did not go more than 20 yards with one of them dropping on the spot.

333,
Hey,interesting idea!
Maybe a "Mich. load data" manual should be in the works eh?
O.K. I'm skunked so far this year,but...
I have taken 7 deer with the .44mag 3 with the Sierra 210gr and 25gr H-110,1 with a Lyman 429421 cast and 22gr Hercules(Now Alliant)2400,and 3 with the Hornady 300grXTP.
Riflewise I don't think I have shot a single critter with a factory loaded round.
I'm back to the Sierra 210 for this year, even though the Speer 270 worked great in Africa this spring. The 210 just shoots so dadgum accurately in my Bisley I can't ignore it for whitetails.Good luck finding that "Ultimate load" now that the bug has bitten.Cheers!Pat

O.K. fella's, I no longer live in Michigan but did for 19 years. I hunted in Wyoming the last few years and with my 25-06 took two antelope and one deer (doe) with same. I used 115 Nos BT's and velocity was/is just touching 3100 fps. None of the harvests took a step. All died instantly. I took one antelope (doe) this year with my .243 using 100 grn. sierra semi-points. These bullets were going a tad over 3000 fps. She didn't die instantly but the bullet did perform and caused massive internal damage. I shot a little high (on a hill shooting down slope at 308 yds.) so I nicked the spine and the bullet went down into the vitals. All in all I will definately use this load again next year. I have also shot one deer (doe) and antelope (doe) with my .300 Win mag. and 180 Hornady SP (flat based). Only problem here was with the antelope. I think the bullet was going a little too fast (3030 fps.) I shot here at 300 yds. and she didn't even flinch. My second shot took here about three ribs back, picked her up spun her and put her on her butt. Origanally I thought the first shot missed but once I opened her up I found the bullet went right through behind the shoulders but never opened up. I guess the second got a little more mass as it left an exit about the size of a quarter. Me and my hunting partner have shot several deer and antelope with a 30-06 and many different bullets. The best, which he continues to use, is the Rem Core-Lokt 180 grn. We have it loaded right at 2750 fps. and to date it has performed flawlessly.

I dont have a fps chronograph but would like to get one someday. I havent been shooting enough to know whether or not a bullet is going too fast or too slow..... for the target that I am shooting at. Any other way to tell fps?

There isn't a sure fire way of knowing without a chronograph. If you follow your manuals, your usually in the ballpark +/- 100 fps which isn't too bad if you get close to max. Don't get me wrong here, it is important to know this info. when it comes down to shooting 300 + yds. and trajectory comes into play. I'm not very knowledgable of all the tricks so if your intersted go to http://www.kabakwe.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro (acuratereloading.com) or huntamerica.com and post in the reloading forums there. There are some VERY smart people there who may know something that could assist you. Good shooting.
