I really used to pound the area from the Hi Banks up to the dam from '78 to '90 or so. I believe that the last time I fished the banks was around '95. My steelheading career was interupted by a bad case of Big Boat Fever. I've recovered from that, thank God, and I've been back on foot for the last five years, mostly fishing the Manistee & Betsie.

Anyhow, I want to go back to the Au Sab, 'cept they changed the place. I was thru there last Monday on a recon after fishing at Whitney Drain. Most of the old 2-tracks seem to be blocked or grown over, and there's a lot of new parking and pavement. Looks like I'll need a map.

So where should I start? I like to swing flies on sink tips, or fish yarn eggs & nymphs under indicators. I'm not asking for honey holes, and I won't kiss & tell. Just point me in the general direction, and I'll try not to hurt myself. IM me if you'd like.

BTW, I know the fishery is down hard, but that won't keep me home. Just want to get it in my nose again. That river was once the best in the state.

Thanks, everyone.

The rivers runs and holes are still the same places (although there are yearly changes with sand being washed in and out) , some spots are now easier to access some now require a hike in. Remember there are trails and path on both sides of the river . As far as the fishery not what it once was but some still fair alright .

Thanks Larry, and also to everyone who sent me PM's.

Got up there yesterday and was promptly skunked, but I got out of the house and got in some much needed practice with a new shooting head.

Nothing to be seen other than a king whose mom had knitted him a sweater, a school of smallmouth marauding minnows around a log jam, a pair of Eagles, and a pissed-off mink. A good day!

Ive got the same problem with the boat Ajax. Got into boating because of the unruly crowds at the A. Now that I cant yet afford gas, been traveling around on foot and getting skunked more often than not, hopefully get the touch back. The fish are there just not in the numbers that they used to be.
