I went out this morning with one goal in mind, get Tess her first water retrieve.
1. I had to have a good draw
2. The blind I wanted had to be available
3. The ducks had to co-operate

Yaaaa ! The plan came together, I hooked up with my nephew and we were the 7th party of 40 something. And were drawn 7th...The blind "was" available, we took it, And ? The ducks did co-operate !
Way cool, her first water retrieve turned out to be a double with the second being a cripple and swimming away, she didn't see it until it tried to dive, then she was all over it,it tried to dive again when she got there and her head went halfway down after it. She came back up with a wing in her mouth, I didn't see how she did it, but she had the whole bird in her mouth by the time she got back to the blind. She got so excited on her third bird she was whinning with that high pitched yip trying to run and swim at the same time, she finally looked at me and I gave her the hand destination and she swam right to it....that one was precious. Her 4th fell behind the blind in the corn, I lined her up, sent her with a "Find em" she went straight but turned about 3 rows short, still weaving in and out of the corn, she found it.
So I've had a pretty good day to say the least. And to top it off I met and shot the bull with daddyduck this morning. My nephew says, ya know ? I'll bet ya guys out here are probably thinking your shocking the heck out of her when she was after the third bird the way she was yipping. It did sound like that.....(She doesn't wear one)...........:)

Since you have a dog as addicted to waterfowling as you are, you will spend every spare moment in the duck blind.. I know the look you speak of. Seeing a dog retrieve because it loves it is the pinnacle of hunting. I wouldn't trade all the money in the world for mine. Some things money can't buy.

Now get ready to work twice as hard to find the ducks... cause you are gonna live to get that dog birds !
