I've been out recently with no luck what-so-ever. I've been fishing the Huron River mostly using a float rig with spawn, hot 'n tots, jiggin' meal worms, hell I've been trying everything. What's the trick to catchin' 'em on the Huron River? Has anyone had any luck? Also can anyone recommend a place to shore fish within 2 hours of Metro Detroit? If you don't wanna give your spot to everyone, feel free to message me I won't tell anyone! Thanks in advance.

If you want to catch anything you need to leave this side of the state and either fish one of the fine steelhead rivers in ohio, or drive over to Ludington, Manistee, or Frankfort. They are stacking up out there and once mother nature lets us fish again, it will be awesome fishing.

When is the last time you actually went fishing? Do you even know the Huron has been a pretty darn decent steelhead stream for being so local?
There are fish to be caught all across the state right now. There isn't a place that is "stacking" up in Michigan right now, sure some spots are producing a little more regularly but the advice you toss out with a regular basis has no merit or substance since its the same thing everytime, or its just something you read in Great Lakes Angler. Go Fishing or Have an original thought....
The Huron is still very low, like last year, so don't expect any sizable runs this year. The Huron is a hard place to catch steel, usually, compared to other Michigan rivers. My wife says I should give it up, as I usually don't catch anything, but I find it more relaxing than fishing better waters with alot of boat traffic. My last trip to the Joe, my little 12-footer was pulled off anchor by the wake of a speeding big boat, and I crashed right into a big fallen tree, losing both trolling rigs and an oar. My last trip to the Big Man, I lost a fish when a speeding boat ran over my line. Personally, I find getting skunked on the Huron less aggravating. As far as catching fish, the Huron really sucks, and I encourage everyone to go somewhere else.

I wouldn't say there isn't places in michigan that are stacking up. Last year on Nov 12 we caught 30 fish, 16 of which were kings but 14 of them were steelhead that were "stacked off the bank in Frankfort. 5 of the steelies were between 10 and 15 lbs. That was only 3 hours of fishing and alot of fish lost. After checking my log we actually had some catches of 23 in mid october last year. They might not be alot in the rivers but the big lake has a bunch in them right now just not close to the piers.:fish:

LOL Eli! :hide:
Lets see, the fish are stacking up off the bank in Frankfort. Now that thats been said, it would seem to me that when things are right you should slam em off the surf. Of course its just like fishing the rivers, you have to know where to go, and read the water etc. It never changes from year to year, timing is everything.

Got one! It's not as big as I'd like but it's a keeper. I caught him on a silver/black hot 'n tot. It was amazing how light he hit, I thought I just hit bottom but I went for the set and scored. What a beautiful sight too, it immediately jumped out of the water and put on a show. I wouldn't normally take a fish that small home but he was hooked good and would have died anyways. I fried him up and boy... one of the best fish I have ever ate...

Yes by all meens leave this side of the state and go elseware because there are absolutely no steelhead on the east side to be caught anywhere except for the dozen or so I seen caught the last 2 days. Its not worth fishing though because only 3 people outa 30 were catching them. They just happen to be on both sides of me:rant:

they are stacked up in the Ashtabula 13 for 20 on steel in one spot, saw several spots that were holding multiple fish, Rocky not quite yet need more rain but they are stacked up out in the lake. It's been raining hard since about 12:30 today so this should bring them up all the rivers, chagrin, ashtabula, rocky, and black to name a few.
That said I will be up in Oscoda this coming weekend hope to run into some whities.
Good Luck
