Anyone hunting in Houghton Lake opening weekend?

I'm going to be in Houghton Lake for opening weekend... I was just wondering if anyone else will be there hunting the Houghton Lake area? :)

I will be up there. I have hunted up there for rifle season since 1988. We do alright up there, but we go more for tradition. I was up there a couple of months ago and the loggers cleared out some of the area that I have hunted in since 1988. :( We stay on Houghton Lake and hunt west of Higgins Lake.

I've been going up there for the last 5 years or so for opening weekend... We always have a great time up there!! I like going out for cocktails at night as well :evilsmile!! What area was cut down by the loggers? I know they just about destroyed the Reedsburg Dam camp area!:rant:

Yup, that's the first place I'd check out in the upcoming years.

i used to hunt south of houghton lake, my parents have a cabin about 20 miles south of the lake.. the area got to popular and i got tired of running into hunters every 10 min. so i started leasing land west of harrison.. i still late-season bow hunt the area south of houghton lake but thats about it for now..and yes that area is famous for clear-cutting, seemed like everytime i found a good spot to hunt they cut the following year, i went through 3 good spots in 3 yrs.

Yup, that's the first place I'd check out in the upcoming years.
Double yup, you may not like the way it looks, but the deer love it.
