My dog Bonnie is currently at the vet for her 2nd night. She got sick about a week ago and I thought it was just a bug. I took her to the vet Friday and the blood work came back that her pancreas, liver and bladder was failing. The vet wanted to keep her for a couple of days on IV fluids to give her organs time to rest. Shes my best hunting buddy. I retired her a few years back because of her age. Shes 14 this month. Man, she could run a rabbit in her day.
I hope that she pulls through this. I know that she is old but I'm not ready to loose my friend. Your thoughts are appreciated.

At 14 that dog is like a 90 yr old person. Think about quality of life issues and such.
Good luck with your hunting partner.

I ALWAYS consider that. Her quality has not suffered yet. She hangs out with me all day.
the vet called today with the new blood work and there has been improvement. He put her on a strict diet of chicken and rice and he told me no more venison. Her and I commonly ate venison together. He might want to do some more blood work in a week. thanks guys! so far so good.

I am so sorry for your loss.
she's doing OK for now. Better but I know not 100%. I dont think she is in any pain. The doc has her on a strict chicken and rice diet. I think that is helping her digestive system.
Her quality of life is still good. She loves just being with me. She does miss hunting though. Every time she sees me get in camo she gets all giddy wagging her tail like she thinks shes going hunting. It's almost as if she asks me "did you get anything?" when I get back.

If a beagle at 14 is equal to 90, I've known beagles that have lived to well over 150 years old. They are resilient little dogs with a heart of gold.
BTW...She's a good lookin dog. I love the stocky Michigan hunting body.
I work with dogs on a daily basis that have failing organs. It's not as dramatic as the words sound. Just keep her on the diet (no fatty snacks!) and make sure she's well hydrated....the liver is a VERY resilient organ and you've just gotta keep the pancreas happy with the diet. I thought for sure I was losing my beagle two months ago when his liver values were reallly bad. He just came back within normal limits two weeks ago. I'm interested to see the results from this morning tomorrow.

Just an update. She is still doing good. She has lost a bunch of weight on her diet. But seems to be OK. She wont eat until I get up in the morn. Her and I hang out all day. She HAS to be outside with me and the cold gets to her. I make her wear a sweater. I never thought I would be dressing a dog. She is a sweet heart. I'm gunna take good care of her. Thanks for the prayers guys. I really thought I was gunna loose her when I started this thread. I try and keep her as comfortable and happy as I can. I dread the day I loose her.

Just an update guys. Bonnie has been doing good. That is until recently. She developed a funny head shake that would knock her over sometimes. I took her to the Vet and he thought she may have fell and damaged a nerve at the base of her scull. Well, 2 days went by and it has gotten much worse. The Vet seems to think she has a tumor of some kind pressing on a nerve. I'm keeping a close eye on her. Shes gunna have to go to the Memorial day cook out with me. I'm worried for her once again.:(

another update guys, she is failing fast. Her muscle structure is bad. I am reassured from the vet she is not in pain. I spend all day with her. I know her days are numbered. Boy its hard to loose such a good friend. her and I have spent so many days hunting and just hanging together.

Bonnie lost her battle today guys. I'm sorry to say.
The cancer was just too much. She died with her whole family, including her son by her side. I am deeply saddened.
Although I knew this was inevitable I never believed it. I miss her so bad already.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers
Rest in peace Bonnie girl.
