Really thinking hard about going to Mitchess's Bay for perch this coming ice season. I would like to know if some sort of machine is needed to get to the fishing spots, or can you walk? Thank you for any input.

From my memory it would be a bit of a walk to get to most good holes. When the ice is thick and hard is when I used to go, and just drive the truck out to the fish!

greelhappy, yes you can walk. park at Basshaven for 5 bucks and use his cannel. He is a full service bait shop.. Big gills, 8-10 inch perch not uncommon. It's about 1/4 mile walk. Then you can also park at mitchels bay and walk out a 1/4 mile . a lot of traffic but I;ve seen guys catch some nice fish in 3ft of water with lot of traffic going all the time.. I'm retired now and can go during the week no more weekends for me.

I did all the recon last year for Mitchells Bay,, insurance on the quad, canadian license, drove over and scouted out the area, got the latest scoop's from everyone in the baitshop and at the launch,,, and never went back... Didn't have to,,, the U.S. side was real good to us last year. Basically fished the same holes until ice out...

boohney ..thats funny, i was in mitchels all year pounding very large fish not those american side "jumbo's" the group i fish with throw back fish under nine. we were the only guys on that side in camo, next to a green four wheeler a couple miles straight out from the water tower! no really in all honesty first ice over their last year was incredible as well as last ice most catches people told me at the bait shops we catches of a life time ?it reminded me of the good old days at genos when you caught big fish we never came in with under thirty a piece and always caught over a hundred .that side is well worth it but a little more heavy on the wallet.if you want a true comparison of size difference for fish and aggresiveness just look at the size of the spoons and rapalas we use over their compared to here.look at a ken spoon then look at a slab grabber one rapalas over here three and five over their.any more info you want just ask or pm me i usually wont give reports on here anymore.

We don't keep anything under 9"(measured, every fish), an occasional 8.5" that maybe swallowed a hook or something. We do fairly well over here, size and quanity. I'm thoroughly convinced though that 90% of the people on the ice have NO CLUE, what their doing. Doesn't matter "where" their fishing.

ya their is alot of fish over here, ill agree but i fish this side all week with the clueless and inconsiderate so sat and sunday are my days to get way the heck out on the wheels.we dont get to many that swallow those spoons, their a hair over three inches long! it isnt by any means nessicary to go way over their their is always spots over here that will produce but i think anyone who is in the know over their will not even think about staying over here for perch.

To each his own I guess,,, the size and numbers over here were just too good for us to jump the border and to able to sit in the exact same holes for 2 months was a plus too. Never had to look for 'em.

First ice, and I mean the very first ice at Mitchell's can be very, very good. I have went on 3" of ice in 3' of water and killed them within a 10 minute walk of shore to boot! As the season progress's you will need to go further out tho' and I'd recommend a quad with chains.

I've had the same problems with sending a pm. I found that if you start to type in the name it will pop up then you click the name and you are good to go.;)
Are you running the Vista operating program?
I am on my laptop and didn't have this problem on my desktop with windows XP home:16suspect
Just curious.
