View Full Version : Powder and primers
Ultramag

I shoot a .300 Ultramag and I am slowly building up a supply of brass. I want to start reloading and have not found any information on that particular gun. Can anybody recommend what powder and primers I should be using?

Ultrmag;
Unfortunatley, that rifle/cartridge combination is relatively new--I believe that it just came out last year. IT usually takes a few years for the reloading companies to develope loads for thier products and publish them. You might want to check the websites of some of the more better known (speer, Hornady, Sierra, Hogdon, Alliant, ect) and see if you can get some reloading data there. My guess would be that powders that work for the bigger magnums (.300 Weatherby,ect) would be the choices for the Ultramag. As for primers, probably go with magnum primers as well. Good luck, and keep saving that brass; its the most expensive part of a reload!

If it's the 300 Rem. Ultra Mag, I came across some info at www.hodgdon.com (http://www.hodgdon.com) . If you check out some of the places that Varmint Al lists you can probably come across more. www.cctrap.com/~varmint/alink.htm (http://www.cctrap.com/~varmint/alink.htm)

I have a 300ultar mag as well a s.s- sendaro, Here is some data from hodgons- I have the new Hornady book also , The powder that remington is using in the factors loads is Viht n-165 {Vihtavouri} This powder is Finland. This powder is slow buring and use in large calibers for the most part with heavey bullet weight. I have been reloading it for a few months now okay results so far, In need of more brass. Working on some varmit loads for 500 yrd + I hate Barnes bullets they are a pain in the rear to load. Brass is not heavey enought they make the bullets longer to get weight which mess'e up set back or OAL . This gun is shooitn at 10 thou off the lands good groups. E-mail me if you want for more info Steve G
