I think that I have this figured out. I will be in the area getting ready for deer camp soon and wanted to do some fishing. It look like waters below 4001 bridge are open as well as Alcona dam to Loud dam. It looks like in the DNR book that below 4001, not a colored water, could be fished for trout as long as you follow the guide of "uncolored" streams and then below Alcona dam to Loud is a blue stream, so open to fish, but closed to all trout except rainbows over 10 inches. I don't plan on keeping any I just want to try out a few spots. Can anyone else confirm this?

you are correct on your interpretation. the stretch below alcona is one of my favorites to fish on the ausable, and below 4001 isn't bad either. PM me if you'd like some spots to go try in that area. also the stretch below alcona is a wonderful and scenic stretch to float hunt deer, generally light pressure and you can also stop and do some fishing in some very productive spots, i'll be in the glennie/alcona dam area during deer season, i can't wait to get back up there and be home.
