Great report.
We were out Sunday in the dumping grounds throwing tubes and one hit, it took my buddy about 10 minutes to bring him in, what a fight.

nice catch... you gotta tell me how to cook em up, cuz i absolutely massacred the few i actually tried. i always catch some big ole cats while fishing but put em back because i just don't know what to do with em.
i have however had a guy make some for me which was amazing, but never got a recipe.

I gave all them away to the guy at the ramp both days. They were too big for me. I keep only the 15 inch or so range. I cook em whole, not filleted. I season with something like Uncle Bucks dry mix and deep fry them kinda hard. Smaller the better. seeya

Crawlers were getting too many junk fish, the gobies only caught catfish and big sheeps. here is one of them

OK-Musicman asked-so here is how to cook catfish (I lived down south for about 5 years and I learned!)
The key is to understand that catfish meat is denser than walleye, so that means it takes the heat longer to penetrate and cook it through. Most people who hate catfish hate it because they cook it like they do walleye or other flakey fish-so it is badly under cooked. Walleye, I deep fry for 5 minutes at 375 degree oil. Catfish I do for 7 1/2 minutes. Also, wet batters are not so good on cats-dry mixes are much better-especially higher cornmeal content breadings.
So, my favorite method for frying is:
Set deep fryer to 375 degrees.
Mix 2 parts of your favorite fish breading (Golden Dipt/House Autry/Drakes/Shoe Lunch etc) to 1 part yellow corn meal.
Roll moist (but not wet) catfish filet in breading and deep fry 7 1/2 minutes.
Yummy!
Also great blackened-just make sure to cook long enough in a really hot oven.

Beautiful fish!! I'll bet those were a blast to reel in! Catfish to me are "macho" fish.... they're tough and fight like hell!
