Hey guys - I just picked up a 1990 Evinrude 15hp outboard, and was doing some routine type maintenance before I put her into duty. I am going to replace the plugs - I know the standard plugs are Champions, but I have heard the motor might run smoother with NGK's. Anybody have any experience or thoughts here? Thanks for any info! Appreciate it.

Mercs come with NGK's as OEM.

Most outboards run NGK. I would stick with what the manufactuer recommends and I believe that is NGK.

NGK are a little smoother, but not a lot of difference. my two cents.

For this particular motor (1990) they came from the factory with the Champions.

I had heard this, but only once, that is why I was asking to see if it is the general consensus or just "urban myth".

I prefer NGK... in the past I've had issues with Champions coming apart (the adhesive they use to seal the ceramic into the plug failed on 2 occasions for me) so I don't use them for any of my motors.
