Hmmm....pretty sure those "hooks" are illegal, might want to tip off the DNR on this, and that 8lb salmon is no 30.

Sickening!
I opened the ad and read it in disgust. I thought about clicking the "email to a friend" and forwarding the ad to someone at the DNR but can't figure out just who it should go to. If I can figure it out, I will do it. In the meantime if anyone out there knows, give it a try. I'd like to see that scum busted!

P.S.
I don't know if it will work or not but I flagged the ad as "prohibited". It's an illegal item so I don't think he's supposed to be selling them on craigslist. Maybe if enough of us flag it they'll remove the ad. Give it a try

Although snagging is illegal in MI, that doesn't mean that it is everywhere. I equate it to selling mechanical broadheads that are barbed in NY. It is illegal in NY to use them but you can use them elsewhere. I see nothing wrong with him selling them since he did post "where allowed".

That's weird. When I click the link the ad still shows up. He's selling big lead weighted 6/0 treble hooks that he specifically states are for snagging Salmon.:rant:

Yep I'm sure it is. That's why I wish I could figure out the correct person to send it to but I'd love to forward that ad to someone at the DNR.

It appears as though I was wrong and you guys are right regarding the sale and possession of these hooks. I was unaware of this and apologize for my support of this man selling them-

Were they Painted at all, according to some bait shop owners near tippy Dam as long as the lead has at least one stripe of paint it can be considered a legitimate fishing lure. If you ask some of the Bait Shops around tippy they still sell them with a little blue paint on them. I have seen them used as "lures" on the P.M. with DNR standing there very close and as long as there was no jerking motion there is nothing they could do.
Just food for thought....

Actually, I believe there is something they can do if the individual using one of them happened to bring in a fish that was foul hooked and not returned to the water, whether the foul hooking was unintentional or not. Any fish not caught by the lure being in the mouth of the fish can not be legally kept.

You can't possess these in Michigan, whether painted or not. I've seen a CO with a whole bag of these he confiscated in addition to the fisherman's rods and reels. I don't think a little paint will change the fact that it is a multi-pointed hook with a weight permanently attached. It is clearly stated in the fishing guide- unlawful activities section.
