View Full Version : Venetian Canal Gills - 14Oct

Had Columbus day off so I decided some fishing was in order. Launched the kayak out of Metro and hit the Venetian for some gill action. Managed to take home a dozen before I ran out of time. Most fish were taken on baby zitz in Yellow Tiger tipped with a waxie or crawler piece. Some of them were VERY nice sized... stupid me forgot to take a pic before I cleaned them. I'm happy with the results considering this is the first time I've targeted gills in canals... and the first time I've been in the Venetian!

Dinner last night was awesome!

There were schools of largemouth chasing bait too if you're looking for some bass action.

Bud and I got our limit of gills in a spot I go to in Oct. 15 were between 8 and 9 inches.

I cant wait to get on the ice in the canal and pull out some gills!

Please forgive my ignorance but can somebody please tell me how you get in to the Venitian Canal from the lake and is the water deep enough for a 19 ft aluninum fishing boat? I have heard about the Venitian as a good spot for ice fishing early in the season and I would like to give it a shot before ice up just to get an idea of where to go when the ice sets up.

perchguy - head towards the Metro Beach Boat Launch. The Venetian is the last canal on the right as you are heading in to the launch, or the first on the left if you're heading out from there.

ForestvilleJack - the Baby Zitz is a panfish-killing offering from M-S's own Ficious. You can find them at www.ficiousjigs.com (http://www.ficiousjigs.com). Get them now to avoid the risk of them selling out when the ice hits. That reminds me... I still have to put in my order. :yikes:
