Hey guys,

I'll be camping this coming weekend in Algonac. Was thinking about throwing a rod or two in the car to try from shore. I'm not going to be able to bring the boat.

Is it worth trying there from shore at night for some eyes this time of year? Should I bring some body baits to cast? What other methods work?

Thanks for any and all advice,

MDH

Best bet would be the boardwalk in town. You can catch some fish right across the street along he river.

Thanks Mike,

I thought about the boardwalk, but I'd like to stay close to camp so I don't have to drive if you know what I mean.

I just didn't know if guys get eyes at night this time of year from shore in the river. Hopefully they do, but either way I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

MDH

You can try accross the street from the campground but bring waders because the water is very shallow over that way unless you can wade out.

There is a BAR with ICE COLD BEER across the street from the boardwalk!!!:D
You can even watch your rod from the bar. With good eyes! Oh,thats right.......you can't leave a rod unattended.:evilsmile
Same bar that IceFishingNut hangs out at.

When I was there in late Aug. the girl camping behind us hooked a walleye right about dusk. Did not quite get it ashore before it came unhooked. She also got a couple of perch.

MDH, we do get them from shore. Send me a pm and maybe we can hook up and I'll show ya the way I do it. It is awfully shallow out in front of the park, not to say you cant get some there, it just that I always have my best luck from the boardwalk.......

You might even go north up to the MC boardwalk or to the Mclouth yards by the ramp.

EDIT I have picked up quite a few fish right in front of the State park by boat so they are there. The water is in the 20 ft range out 50-100 ft, but shallows up in a hurry towards shore. Rapala's, Twisters and what ever you can out on that edge will work.

Do you mean right in front of the State Park? I've caught them there too, but usually out in about 24 foot of water or so, which would be hard to reach from shore. I always thought they came up shallow to feed on the minnows at night during the fall.

If I am able to drive down the boardwalk I may try that!

Thanks for all of the info,

MDH

I went camping there last year for the harvest fest and caught 3 nice eyes across from the campground throwing twisters with a 1/4 oz jig at night. Just real it slow and if you hook a lot of weeds change to an 1/8 oz jig. Best time is just as it satrts to get dark. Good Luck
