QUESTION:

The deer that was found with CWD was in an incloser with 5O other deer, all these remaining deer were killed and tested and no other deer tested positive.
Could the test have been incorrect?
I read that the body of the suspect deer was buried at the site, and that the DNR did not want to remove it for fear of releasing prions, Could a core sample of the burial site be taken and tested to make sure that there has not been a mistake made.
Deer hunting is rather bleak this year.

ANSWER:

The positive deer in the Kent County privately owned cervid facility was tested multiple times - twice at the Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, and again at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. The test that was used is one of the most reliable available, and is one that the technicians and pathologists who conducted and interpreted it are very experienced with. Additionally, the ear tag from the animal was confirmed to match the samples through genetic analysis of the hair in the crimp of the tag.

As for the remains of the deer and the soil in which it is contained - no test is available for such material.

While the inability to pinpoint the source of the disease is frustrating to all involved, the absence of additional cases does provide reassurance that it was found early and that there is very little - if any - additional CWD in Michigan. All efforts of MDA, MDNR, USDA, and other partners are made with the goal of CWD containment and eradication to protect both the wild and privately owned cervid populations.

They don't have to pay attention to the facts. Just like Dr. Miller when he told the NRC that the incidence of CWD in Colorado is up to 40%, when in reality the number of animals testing positive(not sick) is less than 5%. They also don't want to listen to other experts who have proven that Millers severe death loss theory is incorrect. Nor do they want to listen to studies that show that copper deficiency and genetic factors play a role in causing CWD. Nor do they want to look at the fact that if you add up all the deer feed fed artificially that it is about 1.5% of the total consumed by deer as opposed to about 20 to 30 times that from crop damage, yet managing that factor will prevent the spread of CWD and other diseases in spite of the fact that their own research on TB shows that these diseases are likely spread by the movement of adult bucks. :banghead3

It's not that the test was wrong it's the fact that the deer was planted there to stop baiting and put a bigger hurt on michigans economy by attacking farmers who grow crops for baiting i am stick to my conspiracy theories sorry guys:evil:

krafty, your onto something

now that cwd has been found in michigan, the dnr is entitled to 10 million in appropriations in accordace to the financial assistace act of 2003. the state agency that oversees the captive cervid facilities is entitled to 6 million, so since those facilities are both under the watch of the dnr& mda maybe they will split thoses monies.
all in all the dnr has satisfied all of it's key supporters(farm bureau, mucc, qdma, mba)by banning baiting and feeding and have now helped themselves out by getting federal monies. Remember they had an 8 million dollar deficit, wanted to raise license fees, were turned down, miracolously found 10 million and now have had in place a well laid out plan for 6 years that has satisfied their needs and the wants of their key supporters.

here we go,, black chopper s in kent county dart captive deer with CWD,,,, I would rather think its the feed they are using that is infected, the amount of high protein feeds to grow larger deer and bigger racks with cheaper feeds using animal by products that is made by using all parts of the "feed animals" and is possibly a source of the CWD outbreaks,,,, JMHO,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Interesting thought, if this could happen, could genetically engineered super seeds developed for food plots also get contaminated?
I don’t know, I don’t know how they develop high producing seed stuff?

well its not by grinding spinal parts an brains of sick animals that they cant use for people food in other countrys, I doubt food plot seeds would be involved but the crap they put into protein feeds is unreal ! if they can grind it they will put it into the cheaper feeds,, the radical prions????

It was a whole lot more than 8 million.

I agree......I believe they have traced cases of mad cows disease back to and came to the same conclusion. In another forum I belong to they were talking about insects also spreading the disease.
