No, but most of the nooks' will be on the crusty side. The AS does always get really late fish. There are other options at that time though;).....

Hey Slodrift, should be getting close for the whitefish, eh? Also heard some reports of some decent perch off the state docks.

Not picking on Dansjeep....but it occurs to me that most of the people that ask for reports never give a report when they come back???

I'm always happy to give a report to those who ask about a river or lake I fish through a PM and usually always get a report back but sometimes not. I don't mean to sound rude or selfish but I don't like to post a report in the open forum for the whole state to read. I'm not one of those guys who think they own the river or anything like that, I just know there are a lot of lurkers who never contribute anything to the folks on this site and as far as I'm concerned they can figure things out for them selves.:evilsmile I don't get mad when someone posts a report in the open, I just choose not to.

I posted that same link a week ago or so, the only thing you have to remember about those reports is that they come from bait shop owners. I get a kick out of them every week, I ran into a group of fishermen about 10 days ago that called a couple of the more popular shops for a report and were told the Salmon were in the river good. They loaded up and drove from Ohio only to find they were lied to, they weren't very happy when they got here and found out different. I'm not saying that they are all lies but you have to remember they want your money and sometimes stretch the truth, last winter one of the shops kept reporting that they were getting limits of Steel in the A.S, well we had been fishing daily and no one was getting limits. One of the shops by me kept telling people they were getting limits of Walleye and Pike through the ice on Sand Lake, I live on Sand Lake and there wasn't even anyone fishing it at that time. Dan, as far as the Whites, the way this year is going who knows but as soon as I hear or see I'll let you know.

Are you sure they were whitefish? I fished that river ALOT, and never seen anybody catch any whitefish in the spring, atleast up at the dam. I know we whacked them good in the river last fall, but not in the spring.

Whitefish usually start around the same times every year. It might be off a few days, but they don't usually stall a long time like the kings and steelhead sometimes do up there. If your fishing mid-November, you'll be fine.....

Yeah, I heard there's an @$$hole keeping all those little skips, even UNDER 15inches, which is the legal size limit. I was up today for alittle while, just skipper steelhead, didn't mess with the few crusty kings around. All the skips I got today were as fat as can be, I can't WAIT until the adults come in better.....

Jon you are right these young steelhead need to be released on the lower Au Sable. Some anglers are as bad as the cormarants eating everything they can find! There has been a lot of time put in by a lots of people to improve this steelhead fishery and it does seem to be getting better. The first step in improving is seeing more young fish which is happening now. To kill these fish is a complete waste.

Kelly, we are seeing a good number of young Steel this year, even better than last year and most are being returned but the weekenders are putting them on the stringers. I have heard from a couple people that there is a local keeping all he catches even the sub-legals but haven't seen this myself yet. They seem to be very healthy, nice stocky fish, I'am convinced that the Harassment Project is having a major impact and I'm looking forward to releasing some anger this spring. I have noticed that there is a group of birds that hung around all summer, seen them on the river every time I've been there, I'm hopeing some of the waterfowlers will dispose of them for us.:evilsmile

Shawn, I truly believe the increase in young steelhead is from all the work you did this past spring and others like yourself! Two years of cormorant harassment and now we are seeing much larger numbers of young steelhead in the river. That is just what we were supposed to see happen! It is still very early in the run and I’m sure we will see more adult fish this fall and winter. The idea of killing these young steelhead before they grow to adults is just wrong.

I agree with both you guys, and I plan on releasing pretty much all my steelhead period from my trips to the A from now on, just a personal choice I've decided to make. I plan on coming up for a couple harrassment sessions this spring, so keep us updated. Here's a couple of the little guys from Tuesday, as you can see, they're eating well:D! They ranged from 14-21inches:
