Lets say that I want to put a electric motor on a kayak, what kind should i put on and what does a battery run for one of these babies? I am clueless when it comes to boats, but fishing i can do. I also have a way to attach it to the kayak, but what are your guys sugestions? When I do it, I'll post pics. It will be the badest trolling kayak on lake erie.

Hi j_blocker.

You say you're gonna run it on Erie. Michigan or Ohio waters ?
I don't know Ohio regulations but if it's in Michigan waters, once you hang ANY kind of motor on a boat it HAS TO HAVE AN MC#.

Just fair warning. I'd had to see you get a citation.

I've trolled out of my 9ft. Keowee kayak but not with a motor.I can't think of why you would want to put a heavy battery and electric motor on a transomless boat. I mounted a rod holder behind the seat so when I paddle it doesn't get in the way. A fellow from this site dumped his canoe when his line got caught in the prop , and tried to untangle it.Be safe.

I just want to be lazy I guess, The weight will not be a problem, I'm a small guy. I'd like to cover alot more ground than casting off a pier. Thats why.

Ok Jason.

An MC# is a registration number on the bow of the boat. I don't know for sure but would imagine that it's the same in Ohio, but if the boat is unpowered it's not required to be registered. Once you hang any type of motor on a boat, it needs to be registered at the Secretary of State's office. They will assign the number and it must be affixed to the boat. That's the way it is in Michigan anyway. Although, I think yours would be an OH# ;). Good luck.

Ok, Jason.

That's cool. I just didn't want to see you get a citation. Sounds like your good to go.

Good luck !
