Here is a very productive scud pattern that I recently tied. It was designed by Steve Thornton. There is a lot of lead incorporated on the underbody. Cast, let it sink, and twitch it hard. The trout cant resist the action when it is twitched. www.castersflyshop.com

Sweet!

I bet it's a killer in those southern tailwaters. Had them going on the Muskegon a few years back, but not this season

I used to fish scuds quite a bit on the Muskegon, but have been catching fish on other stuff so haven't gone back to them for quite a while. ALtough the last time out I was thinking they should be killer with all the weed beds in the river. Some of the stretches of the river look like a wheat field of something.

And now those pesky weeds are getting weak. A little current, some boat traffic and you can't fish the main slots. Only off-current. In years past that was a late July/August event

Sorry to hijack your scud, DHise :xzicon_sm

I love all those realistic looking ties . . . incredible . . . but my knee-jerk reaction is that they are overkill, and time-consuming to tie. They belong more on display in a shadow-box, rather than on the end of my tippet. There has got to be a TON of satisfaction in cranking something like that out, but realistically, how much harder (and time consuming) are they to tie??

They are very easy to tie and they take about the same time as a nymph pattern that has multiple steps. Maybe 10 minutes not including drying time. I will keep tying them because of how deadly they have been for me.

Good Day,

Well done Dave! Steve is one of the most creative tyers out of England along with Oliver Edwards and Paul Whillock.
