This may be a little late to buy one. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and check out the sales. Last time I was in Lowe's they had a variety of Webers and some of the true smokers--- black round units with stack and
a box to put the wood in.
I have a Cajun Cooker that works on basis of fire pot, water pot and racks. I smoke turkey and beef roast in it. It is easy to get going and gives good results. Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the meat, though. The Cajun Cooker should be around $100. They have a good cook book, too.
Enjoy--

thanks for the info. Are those style smokers easy to use keeping low temps for long periods of times? I guess I was leaning towards a cooker with a side fire pit. It SEEMS like those would be easier to control the temps but I dont know any more input would be appreacited thanks

it all depends on what source of heat you want to use...wood,charcoal,electric or propane
the all have their advantages. go to walmart in grand blanc, i think they had some different smokers in there. i know they had the ECB(el cheapo brinkman) for less than $30 regular price. its charcoal. they also had some electric ones as well as the meijers off of Pierson Rd had some different smokers on discount awhile ago..
if i was starting out again, i would use an electric or propane one for ease of use.
