Hey Al,

I'm looking forward to hearing about your cast bullet loads. I'd like to use some in my new rifle (when I get it) too. What I'm most curious about, is leading. I'd hate to have a bunch of lead build up, because I pushed'em too fast.

I'm hoping these cast bullets will allow me to use a "big bore" rifle, for plain ol'deer hunting. Of course, where we hunt deer, can lead to problems with some "toothier" game! :-)

Take Care!

Check out a company called LBT (Lead Bullet Technologies) for great information on cast bullet production and shooting. Plenty of tricks to eliminate leading even up to 2800fps or so, like heat treating cast bullets nearly to the hardness of copper (33 BHN as compared to straight Linotype at 22 BHN) and using a perforated gas check over the front driving band of a cast rifle bullet.

Also, they make awesome molds, custom fit for your chamber or revolver cylinder.

If your are shooting a big bore rifle, you may want to try paper patched bullets as well. Paul Mathews has a book on these that is available through Wolfe Publishing, the people who put out "RIFLE" and HANDLOADER" magazines.

Curdog, the last I heard was that Veral Smith was doing 4 years in the federal pen for tax evasion and his business is no longer operating. You can get his LBT style bullets from www.castperformanc.com (http://www.castperformanc.com) and from Marshall at Beartooth bullets in Preist River Idaho.

BW,
I only load the cast for my 44 cal. They work real well for this..load for the pistol and rifle they are a little dirty but cheaper to shoot. We go through about 200 at a time. My son loves to shoot them.

Happy shooting
