Do any of you camp much in the fall. I know many camp while hunting, but I am refering more to those who camp for the recreation of camping. What parts of the state would you suggest for the fall? What state parks would you suggest? What is some essential camping equipment that is needed in the fall that is not needed in winter?

My wife and I have been thinking of a getaway and we enjoy camping in the summer, just wondering about a fall excursion.

My wife and I enjoy camping in the fall (Sept / Oct). The MI State parks we enjoy are Ludington and the Pinckney Recreation Area. Although we haven't been there for a couple of years we also enjoy the Mackinaw City area and a day on the island. One of the benefits of a fall outing is the lack of crowds (at least nothing like the summer). Clothing (2 seasons) and raingear are the big things we make sure we have. Nothing worse than being cold AND wet.

Make sure you have warm sleeping bags. At least 5# hollowfill insulation. Turn the heater off when sleeping. A lot of folks die in their sleep from the fumes or lack of oxygen. Fall is a great time for camping. I like the little state and federal camp sites you find along rivers and small lakes. You'll basically have the place to yourselves this time of year.
