Hey Nealbopper, what kind of breed is that Maddie? cute little bunny jumper, she looks like she would be a little firecracker.

She's a Jack Russell.
Using the method i told you about in Freepops, Thank you Steve post, She basically learned to rabbit hunt in one day. After the gun range, she was cool with the shot guns going off so i knew she was ready to start with the training. She'a already smart so once she caught on with the scented cloth bumper, she was good to go. Hell, she was ready to go after the first drag line she followed right to my hiding spot. It was real cool to have her take right to it. We have been hunting rabbits for 10-11 years. She doesn't last quite as long as when she was young but when i grab my vest and the hair spray, she's a totally different dog.

Thats pretty neat Nealbopper, good story, I have heard those Jack Russel's were smart little buggers, I always figured it was beagle's only for bunny's, its amazing what one can train a dog to do.

I know it looks funny but i almost shot her one day. The hunters orange is very noticable and is awesome for spotting the dog no matter where she is, in tall grass or under a brush pile. The best thing about Maddie is she loves to go into the brush piles i remake every year. I put the larger log down the middle and line it with smaller ones so the yotes cant get in. I can tell just by watching her on the outside to know if there is a rabbit on the inside.

When i grab that paint can and shake it and she hears the ball bering rattling inside, she goes nuts because she knows what were about to do.

My dad-in-law's mini daschound is a rabbit machine but with 3" legs it means tall grass or snow is a real workout for her.
