THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7th WORKSHOP I ……. 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Strengthening the Citizen’s Role in Environmental Decision-Making
Wil Cwikiel, Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council
This workshop will explore how citizens can more effectively communicate with regulatory agency staff in Michigan. Using survey data gathered from MDEQ staff and members of Michigan’s ennvironmental community as a starting place, the discussion will ffocus on personal experiences of the workshop participants and
provide tools on how to most effectively provide input into
environmental decisions in Michigan.

Michigan’s Permitting Process

Michigan’s water quality standards and pollution permitting
processes will be discussed in this interactive work-shop.
Gayle will direct the workshop utilizing local examples, and
identify the issues that affect you most. Participants will
learn the “how to’s” of applying for pollution permits (NPDES)
and what to do if a permit is denied. Learn how to work with
regulators and legislatorswho affect Michigan’s river-related
regulatory decisions. Gayle and Gaby will also discuss the
current state of Michigan’s regulations & take questions from
participants.
