I want to keep a tail for my son's first, but not sure if I need to get the bone out of it?? I've tried before and I always end up ruining the tail?? Any advice??:)

Try to find the Mepps lure company website. They buy tails with bone in and I think they want people to cover the meat end of the tail with Borax. Don`t know how long this would preserve your son`s tail for.

split the tail all the way down to the tip, on the back side... its easy... use a scalple if you can get your hands on one. remove the bone, that should be easy enough w/ the split. lay use borax liberally through out the process. then lay it flat, flesh up, and cover in a good liberal 1/2 inch layer of salt and let it stand over night. re salt for 2 or 3 days and it should be fine.

Just take a knife and skin about 1" of tail. Then take a pair of plier's and grip the tail just above skin and pull the tail bone and meat right out of the skin. You want to hold the tail bone with the plier's just tight enough so that the tail bone will slide through but the skin won't. You can pour salt or Borax into the tail, or just dry it.

no problem, and matt v's will way would work fine as well, just skinning it out all the way will ensure proper salting and preservation, and in the end can be framer or put on a plaque if you would like, flat.
