I would think there would be qood quanitites of 2-3 year old fish but 80% of the adults have entered into the river. The smaller ones are better eating anyway.
Good luck and good fishing.

I have seen a few fresh, very tight skeined hens taken of the pier in Ludville in the past two days.
I was up there this last weekend and the fishin was hard. Picked up one in the little lake friday night, one at the harbor sat. mornin' and two/three sunday morning in front of the piers. Guys at the fish cleaning station said they got theirs a few miles up river, nice sized ones. The one I got in the little lake was only about 18". All the rest were 26-32".
And if the guy reading this lost bout' 4 or 5 colors out in front of the piers I picked it up(got it tangled) in all my lines. You can get it out of the dumpster at Insta-launch. Oh yeah it had a nice size king on the end of it too. And thanks for the spoon and swivel!

if 80% of the fish are up the river already this is going to be a piss poor run. There are not that many fish at the Wier on the Little Man. In fact there was only enough fish for them to have one single holding tank open.
I would suspect there are still a LOT of fish waiting to come up.

Does that mean you're catching fish in the lake? My theory is that d/t the late season we've had, the fish are not up the rivers heavily yet, but have started their decay & are no longer feeding in LK MI as they would in late august. Am I even close? Just hypothesizing...

They don't just disappear. There are only 500 or so at the weir, so eventually more will come, it is just a matter of when. With the rain, lake turning over a couple times, etc... I think most are suprised there are not more in the system, but they will come when they are ready. A friend just reported getting adults in 100' of water still off Manistee, they are still catching chrome fish off the pier and there are fish in Manistee Lake. For some reason though not many have wanted to push the river yet this year and most that are there are getting pretty old.
Don't know when they will come, but they definetly are not going to stay out in the lake forever.
We had a good skein bite this weekend, so they are definetly still feeding.

If 50% of the fish are up the river/lake/channel, shouldn't LK MI numbers still be reporting a stronger catch of mature fish? It seems that anyone catching a 3yr is an aberration right now. Is is simply that they're scattered? I'm just trying to attach some logical explanation for our failure to get a nice king for the last couple of weeks...Thanks.

Don't know enough about what is happening on the big lake other than a friend that is still getting them 100' out and another friend that did pretty good between the pier heads last week after work.
A friend that guids throwing cranks and skein in the river is hitting around 1 per day right now, so they are definetly not there in the numbers there should be so that only leaves a few plances they can be, big lake, harbor, manistee lake, aliens.
I didn't fish deep but there were lots of boats out there. Good luck!
