I'll be out Friday night and Saturday morning. We have a sort of a "doe camp" going at our hunt club. Back-straps on the grill and well stocked coolers are hard to beat!

I was going to be my son's first bow hunt but he has poison ivy pretty bad and will be staying home.

I’m looking forward to sinking an arrow into some vitals! We are using this weekend as an opportunity to get some last minute scouting in. Most everyone on stand will have a video camera. Good luck everyone!

Glassed tonight..Saw three good bucks finally. Looked like two 2 year olds and a 3 year old. The old man missed a doe with the shotgun...Distance challenged shooter:lol: Im going to try to stick a doe tommorow night with a arrow. After that its looks like its getting to warm for me.

well i still have to wait till oct 1st to roll around before i can stick one. michigander88 and i were out hitting the bean fields the other night and seen 4 giants all over 140. 1 had to have been over 150-pushing 160. he was atleast 22 wide. just a big pig.
pulled some pics off the cameras, nothing special just some 115-120 class buck. not to shabby.
my boby is killing me from hanging stand and climbing trees. my arms feel like rubber , my leggs and ankles are killing me. hmhhmhmh and everyone thinks its cool to be an outfitter. i should have listen to my father years ago and went to school. what was i thinking...lol.

Should be interesting, I got a public land antlerless permit for Washtenaw county. I have never hunted this close to home before, I'm use to driving 1000 miles for deer. Too bad both my shoulders are fubar'd, 2 more months are going to kill me when start posting your pics.

To hot, to many bugs for me. Started to get ready to hit a stand and said to myself what the heck are you doing:lol:.. The bloodsuckers were out in full force(pun intended) there was no way I was going to hunt next to a swamp with all those skeeters out.

Scratch one...Took this Gal tonight. Shot her with my .45 cal T/C Omega. About a 70 yard shot. She went 30 yards. Died with her front feet in the swamp....perfect! First deer with the T/C shockwave. Wow..The blood trail was very easy to follow. Great performance from the Shockwave for me! Well now until Bow season!

Whats the chances???? I had to hunt hard to find my .45 Omega four years ago . Ended up having to order one at Williams.. Anyway it's the third different bullet Ive shot and the grouping is unmatched with any else Ive shot. Im very pleased with the performance. Three times the blod trail versus the old bullets I shot. I hit her with a 185 grain shockwave with 150 grains 777 pellets. Around 2900 fps at the muzzle!:dizzy:

Just started a new job so my weekdays are shot for now.
Plan on getting out Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
I will get 3 vacation days to burn for the rest of the year, so I am planning on using them Nov/ 10,12,14 for my Shiawasse (state) draw.
Once I get past my training next week I think they will let me participate in their 4 day work week.

Had a great morning on stand today. Saw one nice shooter buck and a handfull of baldys. Anyway I was excited to see him becasue we had not seen him in our summer glassing. Bonus deer! I never really had what Id call a decent shot. Besides he was working directly to my buddy who was set up on the other end of the island. He gave my buddy a 10 yard broadside shot and upon release his bottom cam hit the seat on his tree stand. It threw the arrow off mark and spun the cable and string off his bow..(and this guy gets on me for shooting a short 33" ata bow,he shoots a 38" ata bow:lol:). Im glad he didnt get hurt and I was able to get his bow back up and running in quick order. Just goes to show you anything can go wrong at anytime to anyone. This guy is no rookie either. He has taken over 50 deer with a bow. Heres a few picks from my stand this morning.

well i took the wife out for her first ever hunt, she made me very proud. we really need to thin out the does we have on some of our lands. as we sat in the tree friday evening we had 2 walk into our food plot, she was hasitant at first but eventually came to full draw. this lasted about 10-15 minutes. not knowing why she didnt shoot until the doe caught our wind, she told me there was a couple twigs in the way and didnt want to take the risk of wounding the deer. wow, i was really impressed.
i, myself have not yet hit the woods hard. had customers from ohio the first week and some m-s members this past week. well all i have to say is the m-s member put the smack down on the does. those guys from ohio couldnt hit the side of a barn. anyway, i have a biggin in my sites, im just waiting for the east wind to kick up for about 3 days so i can pile drive his rectum to the ground...lol....good luck guys.

Kicked up 3 on the way in Sunday night and another one camin in about 40-50 yards behind me for the last 1/2 hour light just hanging around and not coming in any closer. She was a good sized deer, that would have been a pain in the ass to haul out. This was a new spot that I found last year scouting and I had a hard time finding it again. Turns out that someone else hunts the area and had some reflectors up, so i decided to follow them out. This guy must have hunted it in the late season when everythig was frozen, because I ended up going through some thick ass swamp ****. I burried my knee high boots to within one inch of the top and almost lost one. Next Sunday morning, I'll try a nearby spot that I know I can get to in the dark, then come back to this one in the evening. Until I know i can consistantly get there, I am not going to try it in the dark.

well i finally got my east wind, i went out to this 160acre corn field that we have lightly hunted , i kinda figured it would take in east wind to accomplish what i wanted to do.
this is my first year on wearing a harness, i never found one that fit, since im 6-2 and 290lbs i had a hard time finding anything that wouldnt ruin my day(if ya know what i mean). since the new vest style came out its been alot easier to get in and out. this past tuesday i was sitting in a small chunk of woods that was next to this corn, at about 5:30 i seen movement off to my right, in come a shooter 7point, had to have been a 115 -120 class. since i havent had time to hunt much i thought this is a good buck to take.....i turned to my right to shoot, and this freaking harness is in MY WAYYYYYYYYYY, i couldnt draw back, talk about feeling helpless...all i could do is watch him pass.
that was the worst of it, not 20min later another 7point came thru, this one was a little smaller and was only 1.5yrold.....i guess they knew and just wanted to rub it in....good lord....needless to say my harness days might be over.............NO MOBILITY

ArrowFlinger
10-24-2008, 02:34 PM
Are you talking about an Ambush Saddle, or just a saftey harness. If you are talking about a saftey harness...keep wearing it. We would ratther you pass on a deer than fall and get hurt. Shots to the right a hard for right handers. I pretty muc possition myself and lanes from my 8o'clock to my 1o'clock with my main shot at 11. Last weekend I had on at my 7o'clock 40-50 yards away. I had to stand up to get a shot lined up, but she just stayed out there.

jdawg240

I use a Hunters safety system.. I tie in well above my head so everything goes up. Wear the harness Thunder!! One of my former customers lost his life a few weeks back becasue he wasnt wearing one!

I'm leaving Monday for a week in the UP. Ill be working on the house and setting up a stand for a friend who's finally committed to the gun season. I should get some time in the woods. Unfortunately if I connect theres no points in it as I'm gun only, dont worry I wont use all my tags  (like thats every happened:sad:). I was not expecting to hit the archery season due to some shoulder problems. Good luck everyone. Ill have team logo t's for the team when i get back, ill post details later.

its just a saftey harness made by hunter safty systems. good lord. i recently been told i could purchase some sort of rope to go around the tree to my safty harness to give me more mobility. anyway, im headed out tonight to hunt by myself, i have had a crap load of action with the farmers taking down the corn, thankgod....cya

Thats what I use. Its the "linemens belt" for the HSS. I use that to tie into the tree. Gives you much for flexability versus the strap. I picked mine up at Gander Mountain last year for 20 bucks.

Went out today to put up some glow tacks for one of our morning rut spots. Good thing we did the varmits had chewed up the cloth seat on one of my API stands. Luckly we a had a filmer set a 100 yards down the ridge. I jerked one of those stands and swapped it out. We had a 25 mph wind and rain so I dont think we left to much scent behind. I just hate messing around my key areas a week before the holy days begin. Things are liening up for a great season. My 10 day vacation starts on Friday the 31st!:D

ok i screwed up, since the weather was less then perfect yesterday, rain, wind,,....ect. i decided to sit a stand where i had good activity as far as does go. figuring since the rut is starting to kick mabey a buck would be right behind her. i was sitting in an oak about 15ft up, since it was crappy out i figured i could stick a doe early and the sound wouldnt carry. like clock work i have 2 does enter my lane about 15 YARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....well ummmmmm i hit a tiny limb and I MISSED. how many deer can we put in for the contest? 1-2-?
after all this last night , i still couldnt find my arrow. we went back this morning to try and find it and guess what, there is a second blood trail that went in a different direction....gggrrrrrrrr not what i needed to see. i know there was another deer beside her , but i thought i had a clear pass thru shot. so we looked and looked but that trail ended. i hope i didnt wound the other one to bad. but anyway it was the best night so far....alot of action now that alot of the corn is coming down.

The day before I left MI, I shot a doe. Of course too big of a hurry packing that I didn't get pictures to make it count. Wife hauled it to the processor for me. Sorry about that team!!.

Hopefully we'll be able to hit it hard the next two weeks. Not seeing as many as last year, hopefully they'll get moving these next couple weeks.

What a bummer. Went out today on lunch to check one of my best stands(1st time I even thougt about going into this area since May). Its produced a shooter buck for me the last 3 years. Same stand almost the same day each year. This year things are all screwed up. The water level in the swamp in higher than it has been in 5 years or more. It's pushed the bedding area another 100 yards in from my stand at least. The neighbors (due to the baiting ban) have pulled their spin feeders, this is were the doe's and fawns were heading each night as they worked just past my set up. And to top it all off the late beans we planted in mid July are being hammerd by the deer now. Of course they are in the other direction from my stand:rant:. I couldnt find one rub or scrap in this area. Usally by this time the area is tore up. I guess I'll have to shoot one elsewhere. This has always been my ACE in the hole spot. Its bailed me out time and time again. It's one of my two good evening spots. I guess I'll have to rely on my two morning stands. Saturday the wind should be perfect so cross your fingers for ol Jdawg!

major boo boo last night.went out to this lease of 160acre corn field and noticed the farmer finally cut it with in the last few days. i have a customer from ohio in and told him and mark my guide to take the furthest stands in the back of this feild. i decided to sit in the same spot where i had my encounter with the big 7point last week(the one when my strap got in the way).also its closer to the truck thinking last week was a fluck anyway. i allways give my hunters the choice of taking the best spots. we all can see each other and warn each other with our 2-way radios if something is headed to you down a tree line. as soon as my customer hit the stand out come 4 doe. then a spike, then a 4point. i was thinking its only 3PM...GOOD LORD. well they kept fillin the field and i stopped watching because i was hearing noise. well a at about 6:30 i see this monster 10point 50 yards from me in some tags, along with i believe was a big 8 which wasnt to shabby. i said to myself if either of those come into my lane im going to release a muzzy. it was sorta getting dark and one had walked into my lane. to make sure it was one of the bucks, i held up my bi-nocks to make sure, "yep its a buck" . he had his butt facing me, now i know what your thinking, this would be a bad shot!!!!!!!! well ummmm NOT, he went about 50 yards and piled up. i heard him crash hard and so did the other guys and they were 200 yrds away. well we started to track him and was finding very little blood. knowing he crashed i just headed in that direction, and there he was in all his glory, A DAM 6 POINT.....***....WHERE DID HE COME FROM???????????????????????????????????....WELL atleast he will eat good. i didnt go out this morning because im still upset. mark my guide just called and knocked down a yote....this should be cool to see....anyway i hope you guys are doing better, i think im gunna take a few days off to reflect on my misshap. damit

Well he's got the trolling motor and battery in his truck:rant:. Luckly he lives a mile down the road from the farm. So he flys over we jump in the truck and fly over to the river. We unlock the gate drive back to the launch and get ready. As soon as we start heading up the river we see a truck pull up to the bridge. We then comenece to hear crap being unloded. FRICKEN GREAT!!TRESSPASSERS:rant::rant:. For one its a dirt road and they have to tresspass to get their canoes in the water. For 2 they are thinking they are about to go duck hunting. WRONG> When will people understand waters bordered by private land are NOT open to hunting of any kind without permssion. Just as if you were on the land. Riperan rights!'So we have to turn the boat around and get back in the truck to go deal with these clowns. (This is after my buddys dad who happens to own the total 585 acres stops them first and tells them they cant hunt). One of the dirt bags tells him you cant stop us you dont own the river. When we get there my buddy (owners son) trys to reason with these 4 clowns. Their spoksman has the balls to claim we are harrasing them. We explain in detail the law and and they can not hunt the river in this area. After 10 minutes of your wrong no your wrong my buddy says screw it. You guys want to hunt go ahead. The CO and myself will be along shortly so he can write you all tickets. What these clowns dont know is my buddy is a state park officer and has 2 local CO'S on speed dial. He knows them very well after working for the DNR for 15 years. What also really pissed us off was they had one of their wives drop them off so no vehicle would be spotted. Anyway they didint come up the river but we suspect they tresspassed down the river insted. I had a ok morning after just barley getting in my stand before daylight. Saw 5 bucks, 4 were dinks and one was a dandy! He was 150 yards out in the swamp. I could have shot all 4 of the little bucks. 2 of my buddys connected on 2 year old 9 points tonight. Both around 100 inchs or so. I had a slow evening only had a small fork horn come by chaseing a young doe. All the chaseing I saw was 1 year old bucks chaseing one year old doe's. The big mommas and daddys werent having any of it yet. Sorry to go on but I had to vent! I'll be hitting it again in the am.

Had a decent sit this morning. The wind picked up around 8:00 and started to swirll all over the place:rant:. Had a nice buck come in behind a group of does and fawns. With the swirling winds the alpha doe was very nervous. The buck at one point let out a long 10 second grunt. Ive never herd such a long grunt. Maybe a tending grunt?? When she turned to go into the north bedding area he quickly followed. He didnt chase or act a fool just followed her. HMMM??? its close;). Im letting it cool down tonight and tommorow morning then I have the farm to myself for 4 days:evil:.

I started a new job on Sept. 29, so all I have is one personal day to use. They have a 90 waiting period before I can use my accrued vacation hours. So i know I can't hit it for a whole week. I do currently have Dec. 12th scheduled off as a flex day.

What a big let down this week has been. This darn south west wind for the last 5 days has killed me. All my top stands are set up for anything north or easterly. We did see 2 huge bucks in the last 2 days. I passed to many 1 year old bucks to keep track of. Every time a 2 year old would be working in he would zig insted of zag . So many close calls. I have a great pic of a 130 class buck standing in the pasture not 75 yards from the barn yesterday. I had planned on sitting most of the day but my buddys both got cold and wet so they wanted to bail. My buddy saw a monster Friday night. 150 class deer. I thought he was full of it. The first deer I saw yesterday morning was this buck..TANK! He is all of 150 and well over 250 pounds. With out a doubt the largets deer I haev ever seen in my life afeild. So far the season of almost for me. Back to work tommorow then Im going to use my last sick day either Wednesday or Thursday for one more morning sit. Then I'll have to break out the muzzleloader .

Well I’m back from ten days at our lease. Monday morning my son and I had a NICE 8pt (18’ inside spread 10” G2s) chasing does around and feeding in front of us for an hour. He came as close as 50yds once but that was it. We did get plenty of video.

We watched him go into one of our sanctuaries so I set up that night in a stand on the north edge. I got out early, with the sun beating down on me I thought to early. I was sitting for maybe 20 min when I could see “bones” lit up by the sun about 60yds out in the thick stuff (and It’s all thick stuff). It was the big eight. I hit the grunt tube, nothing. He never looked over! He walked off to the East. 30 min later a smaller shooter eight came in from the east and made a rub and scraped the ground, were I saw the big one, and then went back to the east.

With about 30 min of shooting light left the big boy comes back rips the same scrape up and keeps walking to the south west. I hit the grunt tube again and he finally looks over to me and starts angling to my right, where I have a shooting lane.

As he hits the lane I draw and stop him with a mouth grunt. He’s perfect broadside, I put my 30yd pin on him and let it fly. As I heard a whack I saw a spark right at the vitals. He bolts for a few steps then walks off. As he walks away he dips down in front and I think maybe I got him! I found my arrow lying on top of the weeds with my Rage broad head missing the blades and no blood. I was not happy. Obviously I hit some brush.

I’m glad it was a clean miss. The shot looked clear of any brush until I found my arrow and a saw a few branches not visible from my stand.

More on this 8pt to come………..

Well this weekend didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I had 7 deer come in Sat. morning. At 7:00 A.M. two does came in about 80yds to the West of me and passed by where I usually set my son up. At 7:20 3 more does come in. The 2 fawns about 50 yards and start heading to where I usually set my son up. The momma cut accross right in front of me at 50 and comes around my left. As she is behind a tree at 30yds. I draw back and she come from around tree HEAD ON. She sees me there at full draw and keeps looking up and down (you know the look). After about 30 seconds of that she spins full 180 and high tails it. At 8:30 a nice low but wide 8 pt. with the whitest antlers you ever saw almost sneaks by me, but he was 50+ yds away. 9:00 a spike maybe a 4 took the same path. In the evening about 5:30 the same 8 came out the same path. Sunday morning I didn't see anything. Looks like I can't get out until Friday morning. Hopefully i can know one of them down.

This has been a tough year. Usually I know one down doe the first week of Oct. then i can be more selective. But with the new job that has eliminated all weekday hunting, I have not been able to get out as much as I wanted. i do have the 12th scheduled off as a flex day, so I should be heading out after work on the 11th. And I have 1 personal day I can use on Monday the 15th, if necessary. I really hope I can hook up with that 8 point on Friday as I am pretty sure he is the same deer(at least same gene pool) I saw 2 years ago when I found this spot.

Went out for my last sit this morning. Had a close encounter with a big 9. These mature bucks are so darn chagey. He knew to stay just enough in the thick stuff to were I couldnt sneek a arrow in. Another close call. I decided to take another doe because I hadnt taken a deer with my bow yet. Plus the first doe I shot in September is almost gone:D. I aged her at 2 and a half. My western UP gun opener was a bust. Walked in before light, set up in the wrong place and within 20 minutes after first light in I had a small buck come within 40 yards, I let him walk, it seemed way to early to see deer. Too bad its the best chance I had all week. I didnt even get a chance to punch my antlerless tag. The wind wouldn't quit and the snow kept blowing. Over all a very poor opener for us only 1 deer, 5 point, between 7 guys. Sorry It's been so long between posts, but I have really been hoping to post something positive.

I'm still hunting at least every other day. I passed on a spike and smaller does, hopeing for something with a little bit more for the freezer. Seeing deer almost every day, but none in shootable positions.

Now that it's getting crunch time, and I'm getting into the almost anything mode, shooting opertunities have been nill. Still seeing the spike, a scrubby 6 and a young 8 though and I remain hopefull.

I'm hedging my luck on just being out there and an oppertunitie will come.

Hope everyone is having good luck.
