All in all we saw 11-12 this morning.. 5 Bucks, videod one of them shredding a tree.. Never had a doe come close enough to us ( I was filming Casscityalum ) but Scotty shot one at 8:15 also 200 yards from us.. And then I had to hold him off from shooting another one..
Congrats Ant!!
Scott saw 5 deer and 3 were bucks I believe.. maybe more..

And you took precious time to take a picture? Weren't you afraid it would rot before you could get it to the processor? :D:lol:
I bet all the bucks left the county when you shot never to return until January!
The flowers in the picture are a nice touch.
Nice doe! Congrats!

What a nice night to be in the woods! Long sleeve T-shirt and mosquitoes, hardly seems like backstrap season already. I was trying to film my wife get her first ever deer tonight and just her luck, all we say were bucks! I felt kinda bad when first a yearling 4 pointer passed by at 20 yards and then a nice 2 1/2 year old 8-point close behind. Even though she did not get to let an arrow fly, she said it was a very exciting night. I will be headed out in the morning to give it a try. It's suppose to be in the mid 40's, should be a nice morning!

Nice work Ant01, thought I heard you shoot! Only about 13-14 shots this morn and a couple in the evening. It was nice, 1BK and 2 does they were in range but just behind some branches so I let'em slide tonite. The buck got under an oak and stayed there for about 30 min the does came in from the NW and hit the same spot as the buck. We will be adjusting tomorrow got the nephew looking for his 1st.
I dont know about you guys but I am not used to all that green with a slug gun in tow. Feels good to be out there though.

I think in order to receive the points for these deer you need to go here and post the pictures http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252013
As far as posting pictures from photo bucket, I'm not too sure I can help. I always add photos to my collection on this site, then copy and paste the location of that file into a post. Maybe there is an easier way but that is how I do it.

We got into a small ground blind about 6:45 not much doing a pretty typical morning in the woods. Alec is 12 armed with a .20 slug gun. About 7:30 12-15 turkeys come in scratch at the ground and eat and they were close maybe 10 yds and never spooked. He thought thats was cool and they made there way off. Around 8:30 I look to my left and there are 2 doe standing about 25 yds away looking right at us. I whisper to the boy there are 2 deer he slowly looks and the lead doe cant figure us out but is a bit wary. She keeps comin closer and the little one is right behind her. Alec is trying to get a bead on her as she works her way out in front of us, she gets at around 15 yds broadside and the boy asks if he can shoot I said you got her? he says yep, take the safety off and shoot. All the while I am ready to pick her off if he misses, and I cant get over how close they were. He touches off a round she hits the dirt, he whips around looks at me, eyes as big as saucers, I jump up you got her! slap him on the back. Hit her in the neck the slug was under the skin on top of her shoulders.
Mine, shot her at about 20 yds on the north end of the 40. Standing in a trail eating acorns, Alec right next to me. Dropped her in her tracks, in through the right shoulder took out about a 2in chunk of her spine. And when I say took out I mean it was gone and that slug was logged under her left side hide. When I peeled her last nite I found the wad also never found the wad in the deer.
If anyone can resize that would be great. Taking the other nephew out Sun, too dang hot for me today and I was beat.
So we got some points on the board!

You wanna talk about hot... Holy snikees! I went out today to hang a double set for the landowner cause I am going to film him this year and I am so jealous of this spot.. For our property he keeps the one side of the marsh for himself and oh my god.. This is the first time i had really ever been over there to check it out and its absolutely perfect.. I was sweating buckets and now I am dead tired.. Was going to go out and just sit and film tonight cause Scott has a buddy down here so he is filming for him so I did not have anyone to film for me and I was dead tired anyway! So i am home and going to go out in the morning and sit and film, watch I will have like 6 does all singles walk right in front of me.. I would be so pissed!!
And then tomorrow night I think I am heading out to film for Hunterhawk?? As long as he recovers from tailgating at the MSU game.. Casscity - WHere are you when I need you? LOL!! You better have shot something up there!!
Great Job Guys!! I will put a doe down just a matter of time..

Northern-Lights, it was kinda weird hunting with a gun in Sept. Bow for me at the 40 that kind of foilage is expected, got out there with a gun and it was differant. Nov 15 all the leaves are gone and being able to see a longs ways it what I am used to, with a slug in tow. Sept cant see as far and out there back in 02 they cut down 236 trees and brought sunlight to the forest floor, holy cow the under growth is crazy out there. It has worked to our advantage the amount of bedding area in the woods has gone through the roof.
Going back out in the morn hopefully the little cool down with how warm it was today will get'em moving.

Glad you were successful. I bow hunt only these days....and my logs show the majority of bucks up in my area hit the peak of the rut around November 7th-9th. I try to take that week off and hunt hard during that period.
I'll be plugging some does during the late season. I live for the late season and the as soon as the snow starts....the migration starts. There just isn't anything better than hunting the late season and the migration. It should be quite quiet from me until early November...but don't worry.....my time is coming!

Like you....I probably won't be hunting much until the third week of October. The early part of October is flurry of activity with bow season....and walleye fishing. The walleye action gets going real good until ice up. So.....I'll walleye fish until late October, then split my time between walleye and deer.
That said.....the first week of October I'm taking a group of fella's over to the western end of the U.P. on a bow hunting trip. I'll sit a few times out there and might punch a doe if I feel like it.

Hey Guys got me a 7pt this morn at 730. Talk about an awsome 2 days of hunting weather! Man did it feel like Nov the last two mornings. I even went and bought a thermacell figuring the skeeters would be awful. Go figure they about all die off with the frosts. O'well what'ca gonna do
The day before yesterday I was behind the house and saw 9 does and fawns which was great I hadnt seen too much back there so that was a big relief. Yesterday we spent the day out in Brown City and saw 3 in the morn 3 in the evening no antlers.
I am beat on my way home and have to go to the hospital wife is preggo with triplets. Pop in for an hour get the scoop come home and really thinking about just sleeping in. Alarm goes off I get up it is awsome conditions I am goin, sleep is over rated. With kids due Oct 23 I gotta get in all I can. I am almost to my stand and a deer comes tearing down the trail running hard and fast. I cant see what it is, and out in front of me another is coming right at me.I squat down and what ever it was got about 10ft away from before it figured out I wasnt a stump. It stopped and turns around and slowly disappears. I climb up sit down and take in an already eventful pre dawn encounter and sweet morn conditions. At about 7 15 I see a deer coming from the west heading east to the bedding area. I thought it was a doe and she stopped just before entering the small food plot I put in. The deer stands there for a good 10 min just lookin around, and there is some cover between us and I cant get a good look at its head. Gets a little more light out turns his head just right and I be damned that doe just grew some bones, sweet proly a 4-5pt. To the north west I hear some comotion and see a couple deer bouncing around. Well they make it my way and its 2 BB, and one more deer trailing them. They get over by the other buck and he runs them off and this other deer comes walking through and is a buck. At 30 heel to toe paces broadside I draw put the pin on him let it fly, drops him in his tracks the other deer jump around and bolt after a few long seconds. Put one more in to finish the job, climb down, a solid 6 with a kicker. Gotta get the tape and measure that kicker it gonna be close. Bring him up to the house to gut'em grab the tape and it passes the sniff test, hair over and inch, yep he is a legal 7pt.
I will try and figure out how to the pic correctly so we get points for the doe I killed and this guy and will post up a few pics.
Good luck fellas, what a morning!

AWESOME JOB!!!! Sounds like with triplets on the way you better get in all the hunting you can. Once she pops you are done for a while. But kids are great and you will have a ton of fun with them.;)

Congrats on your 7-point!! And as a father of a 2 year old and a 7 month old, enjoy them, they will grow quick and yes make good use of your hunting time because it is a bit more limited. My father-in-law in I hunted all weekend. I saw a nice 8-point and a 4-point, but the 8-point did not present a shot. I also saw many does but none of the larger ones presented a good shot. Father-in-law missed a large 6-point this morning, but that's bow hunting I told him. Anyone else see any shooters this weekend?

Thanks fellas, yea time will be short when the babies come, getting in what I can. I was talking with my neighbor in the morning and talking deer and all that jazz. He told me there are 2 large bucks across the street from our homes. He said they look like brothers due to thier racks are identical, wide, 10-12 inch tines, cant really tell on mass cause sees them when leaving for work in the early morn. It's kind of a catch 22 the Mott family owns the field and a large tract of land across the street. They dont let anyone not even famliy hunt over here, so there is great potential just gotta get them boys off thier prop and crusing through mine.
Anyway I cannot figure out the posting pic process, tried and still no luck. Got a photobucket account and the best I can do is put up links. If there is a sticky on this web page with the lastest and greatest way to post up picks I havent seen it, so if you know where it is, hook a brother up!

Hey team....well, it looks like we are doing pretty good so far. I shot what I thought was a seven point on the 10th.... It turns out it's only a six point....the seventh was only 3/4 inch long. Oh well.
I had set up a camp in the western end of the U.P. and had some friends coming up to hunt.
I set it up on the 6th...and that night it got down to about 34 degrees. Whew......it got chilly in my tent that night. The wolves have the deer herd thinned out a lot compared to what it was in the 80's, but those that survived are a bit bigger body wise. Saw a lot of eagles...and even managed to run over a coyote with my truck on the way out there. Stupid thing stopped right in front of me and I ended up breaking it's back when it rolled under my truck. I ended up dragging it off the road and putting it out of it's misery with my 9mm.
Anyway, the color was just past peak....and was beautiful over there. One of my friends ended up shooting a doe.....she had a large body compared to what they were 20 years ago when they were way over populated. Anyway, she would have weighed in about 125 or so dressed. Not bad considering the average deer in Michigan is about 102 lbs or so.
On Friday.....after moving my stand to a new location again because of where I was seeing deer movement....I decided to get out just a bit earlier. The heavy winds we'd had all day Thursday had died Thursday night....so Friday was almost dead calm.
I got into my stand at 12:00 noon. At 12:30, I saw a deer moving through an overgrown logging road about 20 yards in front of me. He came up the embankment and turned broadside at 13 yards. He actually caught me drawing back and stopped to watch me. I was at 3/4 draw when he saw me...and knew I couldn't hold that for long....so I just finished drawing and hoped for the best. He hesitated just a bit to long and I drilled him. He only went about 40 yards....
I have two doe tags left which will be no problem to fill. And, I have another buck tag and plan on using that to hunt the migration once it starts. If I see a nice big guy....then I'll use it then. If not.....then after the migration I'll just pop another doe and can it.
I wasn't planning on doing much hunting that trip....but I couldn't resist and it turned out pretty good. Had a decent acorn crop this year......so we just hunting the oak ridges we knew about over there. Saw 3 eagles at one time...two sitting in a tree with a third adult flying up to them. That is unusual.....most times it's a max of two together. Only seen three together once before and that was about 30 years ago.
Anyway....here is a picture.....

The only mature doe of the group never presented a shot, niether did the injured doe fawn.... Ill be back at it after the cold front comes in on Wed. Good luck to everyone!:D

Congrats Northern Lights, he looks like he will make for some tasty meals. I have not got out much lately, but I am heading to West Branch on our families 200 acres for a long weekend, this weekend. I have 2 doe tags to fill and with a d/b ratio of about 8:1, I won't feel one bit bad about thinning out a few of those does. If a big boy presents himself then I will try for him, but on a doe mission mainly. A couple of weeks from now, those big buys should start to get on their feet a bit more. But it sound like the best hunting is going to be just before gun season (like normal). Good luck everyone and once again congrats to Northern Lights on a beautiful U.P. buck!!

Thanks November..... I'm hoping to see a real bruiser during the migration...but that is really a roll of the dice. It all depends on when the snow starts flying. If it's early.....you might cross paths with bucks with antlers..... If the snow is late....the bucks will have dropped their antlers already.
Well, now I'm going to put away my wheelie bow and try to fill a doe tag with my traditional recurve. I'm even thinking of doing away completely with my "training wheels"......LOL
I'd love to take a doe with my bow on November 15th!!

Good luck with the old stick and string, I don't think I have graduated from my training wheels quite yet, still miss one once in awhile. I have got the November 15th through the 18th planned for our trip up to Seney. We actually came on my uncles 40 acres in Curtis a few of us do all of our hunting up off of 28 west of the town of Seney. I found a spot last year that is about 1 1/2 miles off the road last year that was just loaded with deer. Shot a nice 8 point but seen a much bigger 8 or 10 about 400 yards across the field that the deer feed in just like it is a big food plot!! I can't wait to get up there, favorite place to hunt, hands down!!! Good luck everyone, Lat have you had any luck with posting your doe and buck yet?

Well I will finally make it out this weekend. I am heading to a friends property in Oscoda. There will be about 15 guys up there for the weekend. We go up once a year as a group to Pheasant hunt and I am usually the only one who takes a bow. This year there are two of us taking bows. This property has the potential to hold a monster. I have known the owner for about 10 years and over this time I think they have only taken 4 bucks all 8 point and larger. They actually have an 8 point or bigger rule for bucks. Whack a smaller one and you are not invited back. Tough thing is I don't get to hunt it too often so scouting is almost impossible. And between the 2 owners they have 1500 acres.:yikes: So I usually resort to climbing up in one of the tree stands on the property and crossing my fingers. I always see deer but to date have not seen one that I could shoot.
Oh I don't think I told you guys but I went to check things out on the property I hunt in Ypsi and guess what.........both of my tree stands were gone:mad: They were kind enough to leave the locks they cut off at the bottom of the trees. So now thats a camera and 2 stands taken. I don't think I will be back there. One of the stands was a Family Traditions stand with a 3 foot extension or $300. Why do people steal? If you cannot afford your own go ahead and hunt out of mine, leave if I show up, but leave it there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Congrats! Having everything go well with everyone healthy is the best gift a guy can get! Make sure you give the wife lots of love and attention. She'll need some looking after for a bit. Sorry to hear about your luck caribou!! That is ******!!
Congrats on the deer taken so far and remember we can always up the anty so now that you have one down lets shoot for one a little bigger and see if we cant put this thing to rest!!
I got back from Ohio Sunday and it was a great 3 days although I did not shoot a buck.. I am headed back in mid December to give it another go!
First morning there only saw 4 does.. Was real foggy..
First night - we had deer all over us and going into this spot I knew there were already 5 bucks frequenting this stand of which two were missed.. About a 170" mainframe 10 point, 145-150" 10 point, 135" 9 point, 125" 8 point and a 90" 7 point.. From about 6 on we were covered up in does and then about 7 pm we had the 7 point come in and he was a 2 year old already about 17" wide and was watching him for a about 10 minutes and decided to get into position on the trail most of the deer were coming in on and just as I went to move the crossbow.. I heard on blew very briefly and run about 15 yards and stop and when I turned to see I couldnt see well because it was behind som brush but my camera man said it was the 150" and he was within 20 yards of us and we had no clue!!
2nd and 3rd mornings were pretty uneventful..
2nd night - crazy stuff!! to make a long story short we were in the stand I saw two hunters walking the opposite ridge and my camera man who also happens to be a cop jumps down cause only 2 others are supposed to be in there but not that far in.. At any rate comes up on the guy only to find out its Carson Palmer and his little brother Jordan and they actually did have permission once all was said and done. Once all that was done we finally got settled back in the stand around 6:15 and by 6:45 I had a doe on the ground!! Smoked her at 15 yards! She ran about 75 yards got wobbly and laid down!!
3rd night - Go over to a different spot they call the field of dream and when we get there I thought they were blowing smoke up my rear.. We set up a ground blind 150 Yards behind the farmers house and there was a fence that came all the way up the line and was line with heavy equipment and more fields off to our right, left and behind us and I asked where in the hell are these deer going to come from?? He says up on the ridge and come right through this one gate 50 yards away and feed in the clover/alfalfa and I look up on the ridge at the timber and can see through alot of it and said "there??? I can see right through that stuff!! How many deer do you suspect we are going to see.." He says between 15 - 50.. I said Yeah right.. By 6PM we had seen 3 does and 1 was close to the gate but never came through and then.... by 6:15 it was like the flod gates opened and these deer were coming from everywhere just showing up and all but 2-3 came right through that gate.. It was unbelievable. Saw about 25-30 in all and 4 bucks.. The one shooter stayed up on the ridge about 300 yards away but we had a spike, 5 point and a 110" 8 point in front of us and passed.
I will tag one down there, its just a matter of time.. The guys have already taken one over 150 11 point, another over 140 12 point and one in the 120's 10 point along with the two misses and my doe all on film and they are hitting it hard this weekend so I am sure they will put a few more on the ground!
I will start hunting here next week after the 21st!! So it will be game on!! They sent me home with a fair supply of Buck Bomb so we are going to put it to the test and they also gave this new call which I am very interested to see how it works cause it sounds very realistic for a doe blat/bleat..
Heading down to Jackson this weekend to film my buddy cause we have a few good ones running the property there so we will see what happens!!
Good Luck Everyone!! Sorry for the longwinded story!!

Well... I put a big doe down on Friday night. She gave me a 27 yd. broadside shot and i hit the 12 ring. She only went about 30 yds. Gotto love Rage broadheads. In total I saw about 8 deer yesterday with a real cool encounter with a small 4 point. Underneath me all night. Tonight I only saw 1 deer :yikes: of course a SHOOTER! At 81 yds cruisin through the timber, he was unresposive to grunts, maybe in 2 weeks he'll think differently. I believe ge is a 3.5 year old mainframe 8 with some junk at the bases. Around a 16" spread and goes all of 130" Atleast he is still alive!!! Good Luck!

Well guys looks like things are shaping up pretty good out there. I got out last nite and saw 5 doe and a small buck harrasing the them. Second time I have seen this group of does cruise about 35yds south of the plot, break out the climber for tonite and see what happens.
I set the alarm to go this morn got up and the moon was really brite, went back to bed. The other morn it was even brighter and didnt see anything and I am trying not to burn the blind out.
Good job on the doe Kotz21! And good luck with big buck hope you score.

Congrats on the does guys and the 3 little ones lat!! I had my first son stay at Hurley for 86 days in the NICU, he was just a little 2 pounder. They do an awesome job there and I'm sure your boys and girls will be home soon. I got my second doe of the year Friday night up to west branch. I have 2 doe tags for up there on our 200 acre family farm but I will save the other tag for muzzleloader season. 5 guys hunting all weekend and only saw one spike, pretty sad ha, that is why we all are trying to take some does out of there and let all the little bucks go. Buck to doe ratio is all screwed up. Gonna start huntin the bucks hard the next few weeks. Lets get some big boys on the ground!!

Saturday night I was sitting in a tree stand where there is only about a 12 foot window where you can shoot. And with the current amount of leaves it’s the only spot where you can really see the deer. So needless to say, no sleeping in this one. They are on top of you before you know it if you don’t hear them coming.
I got into the stand Saturday night about 5pm. I had an old bottle of scent in my backpack from last year that was leaking so I took it out and dumped it on each side of the stand just to cover my scent. About 6:30 I hear something coming from my left. Like I said there isn’t much time to shoot so I drew my bow and waited. I had my mind made up that if it was a buck, it had to be minimum a big 8, a doe, I would shoot. When it came around the corner where I could see it was only 18 yards away. It was a very nice 6 point. He had a really tall rack but just not big enough. I think most people would have shot. He proceeded to walk right up to my ladder and stop. With his chest pressed firmly against the ladder he looked up at me as I was bending over looking at him. Then he smelled both sides of my ladder where I dumped the scent. I think this got him really excited. He then looked up at me, and proceeded to rub his face all over the ladder and paw the ground. As I watched in amazement my phone starts to vibrate, he didn’t care, and continued to rub. So I took out my phone and tried to video tape him but it was a little too dark to see anything. After about 5 minutes of this he slowly walked off, probably wondering where the hot doe was. It was the coolest thing I have ever experienced.
I have some time to get out this weekend so I will be hunting private property in Imlay City. There have been some really nice bucks taken in Imlay this year. If you live in the area check out the pictures at Bowman's.

I will put a bow in hand this weekend and get after them... Things have been pretty slow around the lease so far but good news is we spoke with a guy that hunts the property where we suspect all the deer are and he confirmed that he has been seeing 15-30 every night he has sat.. So it is a waiting game until the corn comes down..
In the mean time I let my buddy take his kid right behind my house and mind you the stand is 50 yards off my back yard and I really havent seen too much sign but did notice some rubs all along the ridge and its all oaks back there so I told him to give it a go..
They seen 8 deer... Of which 2-3 were bucks.. 1 was a 13" 6 or 8... And 1 was a 17" 8 point he said with nice tines... :yikes:
I live on the outskirts of town and own 3 acres with a marsh behind my house.. I might have to give it a go back there.. I know he stays there now cause the guy that cuts my lawn saw the same buck in August off the back of my house..

I've had a rocky go of it lately...Not that im not seeing deer, just bad luck. Friday in Washtenaw Co. I arrowed a nice buck, and was told I couldnt tag it due to the farmers corn still standing.(12 yd. broadside shot) So I go out to my lease in Lenawee Co. yesterday and have a 110-120" 8 pt. that I grunt in to 9 yds. broadside. I take out 1 lung and he goes over a mile away with out being jumped. We waited 4 hours before tracking him after securing permission to track from neighboring land owners... Im bummin, took the day off to spend with the wife and pup! Back at tomarrow. Good news is the landowner said I can track the deer tomarrow in Washtenaw Co. I have to quarter it out to do so... Hope its still savagable, been 3 days.... Good luck everyone... I havent seen any bucks chasing does on either farm in SE lower Mi either!!!! Hopefully this week!!!

Yes.....my personal vacation for bow-hunting starts this week!! Won't be the best of weather....but should be great for deer hunting. Best investment I ever made was good quality rain gear.....so I'll be out.
Good luck everyone.....I'll be hunting from November 5th-11th.
Wahoo!!!

Well guys... How did we do? I harvested another Swamp donkey on opening day! I didnt see any shooters this weekend, weather wasnt condusive to deer moving. Overall I did see a bunch of deer in 3 days. All the doe groups are still together and even bucks! One of my buddies witnessed 2 bucks walkin together:dizzy:.. Hopefully this weekend changes a lil!

Well I have to say things were a little slow for me this weekend. I have hunted everyday since Thursday. On the gun opener I saw a shooter tending a doe of course about 500 yards away and not on my property. But your right about the bucks. I had my camera over a scrape for the last 2 weeks. The first week the area was very active with about 5 different bucks visiting. The last week nothing. There has been the same pile of deer droppings in the scrape all week. I took the camera down Saturday and moved it to another spot. Today I go by there and not only has that scrape been hit I found 3 more that weren't there before.:dizzy: Now maybe you guys can answer a question for me. Are there scrapes that bucks make that they will only hit under the cover of darkness? The reason I ask is like I said earlier I had a camera over this one and the only time I caught something there was between 1-5am. Now that there are 3 more I am wondering if I should hunt over them or not to waste my time?????

My opener went good, I had my buck down at 7:30. He came strolling along the edge of a poppel slashing looking for does. I shot him up in Schoolcraft county on the Seney wildlife refuge in the UP. The DNR said 4 1/2 years old when I checked him in, what do you guys think. He was pretty rutted out, he was down to 140 lbs dressed. But hey, it's a beautiful UP buck and here are a few pics.....

Congrats on the buck!! Is he a 10 Point?
Things are starting to pick up around us.. All in all I saw 17 Opening day and 5 bucks and 11 and 3 bucks on Sunday. Went out this morning and saw 5 and a real nice 2 year old but have not seen any of the big boys as of yet. I will be taking a doe this weekend most likely and corn should be coming down soon so that should make a world of difference for our hunting.. We have probably 200-300 acres of corn still standing within or on the edge of our 1 mile block..

Ya, he is a 10 point, almost perfectly symetrical too. I actually went to pick him up from my butcher last night and on the way home a frickin doe deideced to commit suicide with my bumper. By the time I stopped and she had drug under my truck for 75 yards and ran over here again, there was nothing left of her. Only a mile from home too, good thing because the truck is in bad shape. Good luck to everyone this weekend, should be a good one!!!!

Very nice buck ND, the weekend opener yeilded two missed deer a 3pt buck and a doe on Sun. Kinded upset about it all and havent made it back to range to figure out what the hell is going on. Brand new H&R Ultra slugger 3x9 on top, at the range I was 1.5 inches high at 100 yd. The 3pt was 50yds out and I nailed the small Maple perfectly, the doe on Sun was 25yds and 2 missed shots. I put the gun up and got old faithful back out, 870 smooth bore slug barrel and no scope.
Been hunting behind the house as of late and it aint much with the babies. A couple hours in the morn and and couple at nite, if time permits.
But I did smoke the ugliest and weirdest antlered buck last nite.
He is a 5pt with 3 antlers, I will get the photobucket and story up between feedings. Good luck fellas!
