the last weekend of the month is the youth hunt...what is exactly the rules

if my daughter has regular combo tag...she can use it to kill a doe or 2 with a bow...but cant use it for a doe with a gun????....

can bucks be shot with either weapon (with the combo)???

2008 Early Youth Firearm Deer Hunt

When: September 27-28, 2008.

Who: Youth(s) 10-16

Weapons Allowed: shotguns, rifles, (in respective zones) muzzleloaders. Hunters aged 10-11 are restricted to bow and arrow only.

Where: All lands in Michigan. Hunters 12-13 are restricted to private land only.

Licenses: Hunters aged 10-11, archery license or junior combination license; Hunters aged 12-16, firearm or junior combination license. "Archery and junior archery deer licenses are not valid during this hunt...A firearm or combination license is good for any deer in this season." "An antlerless license or a Deer Management Assistance permit, if issued for the area/land upon which hunting, is valid for only antlerless deer."

Bag Limit: "ONE deer."

Parent/ Adult Guardian Responsibility: "Cannot possess or carry a firearm or bow and arrow and does not need a deer hunting license."

Odd and Ends: No bait (even in the UP) during this season, all hunters must wear orange.


Thats it in a nutshell. I gave the link at the top which is directly from the DNR's website and all the info posted came from the 2008 Michigan Hunting and trapping guide and if memory serves me right you can find it on page 9 of said book. I don't think I missed anything, but if I did, I'm sure someone will catch it.

She has a combo....she is good for 1 deer(antlered or antlerless). Depending on her age and location(private/public) will dictate gun or bow.
