I am curious, as I am going to be spending a lot of time up there in the Iron Mountain area, and would like to get the skinny on the local clubs, places to shoot both archery and trap, as well as my pistols. I also would like to know about hunting areas, and when the colors are really peaking in the area...the news shows are always wrong and I miss seeing them by a week every time! It's always good to get it straight from da locals dontchyaknow. Maybe we need a "UP Forum" for such things. It is a different world afterall once you cross "da bridge".

Thanks,
Jeff

My Dad, my brother and my Mom do...but I don't. I wish I did though. It's certainly god's country up there.

Good luck, eh!

Jeff,

I live in Iron Mountain. The gun club is Merriman Sportsman Club east of M-95, about 3-4 miles north of town. They have archery, trap, shooting range, indoor range for handguns, and a bar. I believe the family membership price for the family is an outrageous price of $20.00/yr.

Peak Colors in the area late September early Oct.

Hunting and fishing all around depends how many people you want to run into but a lot better than downstate. I grew up in Milford, in your backyard basically.

A great area to explore. We love it up here.

Yooper born and raised. I love it up here as I can easily access miles of hunting and fishing land. It is an outdoorman's paradise!

Thanks guys...this is great information!!! I have a buddy up there working my equipment and we have a big job in the spring. I think I may come up to hunt bear and deer this fall (I got a bear tag for 3rd hunt), and then return in the spring for a little fishin' action. I am really looking forward to exploring the woods and lakes up there. I have shot at Merriman before, and am even a member. I've only shot there once (sighting in), but it was nice. They are a great trap club though, and the mud racing in the back is fun to watch.

My brother lives in I.M. and I've been up here since the 7th scouting and golfing. Leaves are starting to change pretty good and I've been finding lots of rubs already. Golfed 54 holes yesterday in Iron River (George Young GC) and it was really colorful out that way. Bird Hunting is a little hard right now cuz it's very thick in the woods. Ferns are turning yellow but still up. Gotta head back down to Plymouth in a few days, BUMMER!

.....of mind.

Colors are really starting to get brilliant. Flying into Sawyer Friday you could really see that things are changing - the next two weeks will be the best I'm thinking...

I always say that you could spend your whole life exploring the UP and not see it all - but that's not gonna stop me from tryin!

You bet. I wish the high and low temps would drop about 10 to 20 degrees, though. ;)
