I was. Connected on Sat. Nice 4 1/2 yr old cow. Shot her on the Webber road at 7:20 AM. There was about 8 animals in the herd. I also saw the biggest bull of my life in another area on Fri AM. He had at least 3 cows with him and even at 50 yds I couldn't get off a shot for fear of going thru the cow and hitting the bull.

The Webber road runs North off of the Webb road. It is part of the boundry. Shot her about 3 miles up the road. At the meeting, the DNR said statistics show that at least one hunter will screw up. Well, I came close. I shot the cow on the West side of the road in a little field, she bolted across the road and dropped on the East side, 20 feet in. Had to call the DNR and they sent a couple officers to investigate. Everything worked out, no problems. In fact, they were very good to work with.

No pics, sorry. Forgot my camera, so I bought a throw-away camera and have to develop them. Do have pics of a 6X6 I shot in Colorado 2 yrs ago. I used a 7 MM mag, shot was about 30 yds. The night before, I was off the Old Vanderbilt road and was listening to bulls for the better part of the evening. But as soon as hunting hours were over, 3 of them quit. Musta been guides and or hunters using calls. I used a cow call, but no response. There is a monster out there, made my 6X6, 37 1/2" spread, look like a baby. That was when I could have used the camera. I was kinda upset during the first hunt due to the fact all the elk being taken were on private land and you had to hire a guide to get at them. I realized that during the second hunt the bulls were starting to go into rut and moved into the public land areas.

Hippy,
that sounds like a low number of kill.
Do you happen to know the kill for the early hunt?
Do you think they do a Jan. hunt??

The 76 out of 110 was the total kill for the Aug. Sept. hunt combined. That was as of late Tues afternoon,so it could have changed a little. As for Jan. hunt I don"t know.If they do have a Jan. hunt they draw tags again from this years apps.
