The season is long enough without having to start it this weekend! Still got some fine tuning to do and I have not even started shooting the pistols yet. October 1st finds me in my favorite stand for early and late seasons. We'll see how things progress if the crops come off fairly soon. Good luck to those who are going out hunt hard and hunt safe!

Thanks guys, I did see three bucks while sitting last night. Two small
1.5 yr. olds and a nice 2.5 yr. old tall seven point. The does followed behind towards an alfalfa field. I took one of the big does at about 125 yds.

Hey Danny, yeah Brad and I went out last Thursday evening and sat on the edge of there Alfalfa field. Saw one really nice 2 1/2 yr. old seven point. Two other smaller bucks and about 8 does and fawns. I shot my doe first and then Brad missed one about 125 yards out.:p Where are you hunting opening day?

Well there have been 2 does killed on the property so far. Land owner got one during the early season and one of my partner's son shot his first deer last night. Deer are killing the beans. So what did we all do wrong to get a weather forecast for the opener like this? May put it off until Saturday. I have not missed a bow opener since 199???? I cannot remember when. I do like the temps though. Let's get this thread to the top!

I will not be out for the opener either.....I don't usually get too riled till the third week into season any way....i enjoy getting out but am trying to get everything wrapped up before i head to canada in 4 weeks.....

I don't think I'm going to hunt opening morning. Really tough to get into most of my spots without bumping all kinds of deer. I will most likely slip into the stand Opening night and Thursday night as well. Good luck to all of team #5!!

Well the 1st has come and gone. Nothing down yet. The morning was wet, cold and windy. Nothing was moving, left stand by 9:30. Glassed a bean field for about 2 hours until finally a deer came up the lane to eat some apples. Great day for in season scouting. The corn fields were being hammered so I set up my pop up on the inside corner. Sat from 3:30 to dark. Had two smallish does come in at 5:30 about 8-10 yards but they here antzy. No shot. Two P&Y racoons came by about 40 minutes later. The night ended with the big matriarch (sp) doe coming out right at dark couldn't see the pins and declined the shot...she was 10 yards broadside head down eating. I hate it when that happens. To top off the night I almost tagged out before I got 3 mile form the property. Missed a 4 point and a 6 that ran infront of me and then a doe a few miles further. All and all a wierd opener.....

well i hunted the first 2 mornings seen no deer.first morning and had some guy show up at the farm i was hunting the second morning.i cant wait tell i go on days and can hunt nights.or november which ever comes first.good luck to all this weekend:)

Nothing here either. Hunted around home wensday and Thursday saw nothing. Went up to eastern U.P thursday night thru Sunday morning never saw a deer on stand.

Well Saturday "should" have been a great day for deer activity; jokes on me. One very small doe in the AM after a 3 hour+ sit. Too much standing water had altered deer movement so time for a move. Now over looking the convergence of about 5 different runs. Scrapes and rubs have started to appear 6 new scrapes and three rubs since the opener. Hunted the corn field later, sat for 4 hours and only two yearling showed, think someone was on the neighboring property and not palying the scent game too well. Heard deer crashing and blowing all night as they were making their way to MY stand. I cannot beleive the amount of damage they are doing to the corn WOW! staying home for the next couple weks then hitting it hard from then on out. Beans should be off by then but there will be over 80acres of winter wheat one field over to take it's place.

Thought I would give an update. I hunted the first two days, seen 7 different bucks, a handful of does, and two button bucks. Haven't been out since, getting back in the woods tonight. Alot more bucks around it seems like this year. I have my eye on a nice 9 and hoping to see a buck I missed last year. He was an 11 that went about 150. Never heard a word about him being taken around the area, so im sure he is still there, just doesn't show himself much. Talked to a few people that said they saw bucks chasing this weekend, and a friend of mine shot a 10 sat grunted him right in. Something good should happen in the near future.

well i have not even been out yet, but i have been checking the cams and have seen one good buck i would shoot if given the chance.I am busy trying to get ready for my trip to Canada right now but i will get some points on the board soon.....

well guys,
I got my last few spots ready today.....set up 2 more scrapes and found some nice pinch points i plan to hunt as soon as the boys start moving in the next couple weeks, but i have not even been in a tree with my bow yet.....just waiting for the end of the month and then it will be ON!!

Took this weekend off. Had to re-group a bit. Got one of those HSS pro vests and the lifeline. They really stink even after washing and air drying but i'll feel even safer in my stand from here one out. One friend is already tagged out from the first week, took the whole week off mind you. Bud from work texted me that he shot a nice 7pt. Saturday night, pics Monday. They are there hope it gets cold again first time for the new stand location.

Well 4 more days this job will be done and hopefully I will be in the woods saturday morning. Hope the weather pattern changes like the weather man is talking about. It will feel good to finally climb into a tree for the first time this year.

got this dude on sunday oct 12 it was a hot one he came in w/a small spike to a watter hole and i shot him at 20yds it is a good start to 2008 season

I do not fully buy into this concept but after Saturday I'm re-thinkin it. What a beautific day weather wise but what a bust deer wise. 8 hours on stand producted "0" sightings!. To make matters worse as I drove off the property a nice 6 pt with a doe ran across the driveway. Then just off the road on the ditch line two big bodied deer were bedded just off the main road and 8 other deer were gathered are them. I am at a loss for an explanation for this behavior. Full moon was Wed. Suffice it to say nothing down yet!

well my son and i went out and checked cameras this morning and at one of the mock scrapes we started last weekend we found another fresh scrape and the one we made was all torn up......when we made this scrape we set a couple stands 20 yards out in a big oak tree.....so we decided to go sit it this afternoon......but the wind was horrible and then when the lightening and thunder started we left and we didn not see a thing. I am going out again this next weekend but then i won't be able to get out till i get back from hunting in canada at the end of the first week in nov.

OH we did get another pic of a nice 8 point at one of our scrapes though....Thats my secret spot that i am hunting ALONE:evil::evil:

Well guys no luck for me yet and now i am done till i get back from canada...We leave for up there friday at 2pm or so:D:D I called up there yesterday and talked to guy we rent our cabin from and he said there necks are swellen and they shot 3 dandys on saturday 1 was a 14 point with alot of mass and the other 2 where 12's.......

Okay help me out here. I know this weather could not come at a worse time BUT. Last weekend finally got into some bucks and a few, very few, mature does. So coming into this weekend I'm rather geeked. Then we have Indian summer, then Obama wins...sorry lost rack. Now here it is Saturday and the chase phase should be rip roaring good right? No way Saw the one nasty antlered buck but offered no shot, he has to get out of the gene pool. Hunted 4 hours in the eveninf stand 60 yars off the now cut cron field; not even a squirrel. Mach 3 wind didn't help any either. It seemed that they were running pretty good in the morning and the number of SMOKIN fresh scrapes and rubs was unreal. But where are the deer? I am at a loss for what is going on this year, at least on this property. How's about you?

Once was bad enough, twice I was very...:rant: I think he sensed something uneasy. Atleast 8, didn't pay much attention to the rack. Knew I was going to shoot him, and kept my eyes away.
