ALRIGHT BOYS!! Silent-Harvest is up and running. My plans are in stone now for this weekend so I'll be joining you guys in putting some points on the board. I've had a little confidence problem with my broadheads the past few weeks and decided to switch back to what was working for me in the past and the confidence is back!!!
Did this rain mess up any of your guys stand sites? I have a creek to cross for my best spot and its BLOWN out right now. I'm hoping it will be back to normal in two weeks.

the rain didnt mess any stand sites for me up but it did try and swallow my truck when we planted the last plot on sunday i am pumped the the early season but pissed at the same time i ordered a new sight 3 weeks ago and still not here. the first two weeks apparently it went on a tour of the eastern sea board and then back to sender and then it was shipped out priorty mail on the 9 or 10th so hopefuly its here today.
then o'l silck head is in trouble

I'm hoping for a great early season got a nice little chunk of land down in Macomb area. Talking with the finance' shes like well how much time do you need for hunting? I asked how much can I get away with? Shes actually a really good sport about me hunting (some of my x's wernt and thats why they are x's ) So gonna head out early sat morn and see whats going on out there and then maybe sun morn or evening. I would love to whack one early sat morn and have it dropped off to the processor and back at home by 9 or 10.
Just have to head over to Williams tonight and recheck the scope as I took it off and messed it all up playing with other toys.

Hopefully the rain didn't mess me up. I'll be sittin high and dry 22' up an old oak. Theres a big depression in some thick cover about 60yrd out that fills up nicely when it rains. Hopefully it will make a nice little watering hole for a while. Can't wait to get out there. Made my final sight adjustments and am ready to go!! Glad to see so many are making it out for the early season.

you can put the points up.
Took a very large doe at 8am. darn thing ran across the swamp so I had to go for a swim to get her, and than walk her all the way around the swamp to get her to the truck.
Will have her aged in a bit. Plus pictures will be up.

We never see any deer till the corn comes down. Two years ago that was November 21st.... Farmer must have been busy that year.
Thinking about taking the shotgun out tomorrow. I'm thinking it will make a little more impact on the deer, but I've only got one dayto hunt this early season.

Got out Sat and Sun morn. Sat got bamboozled by a friend of the land owners cousin. Saying the land owner was out hunting with his boy so I had to take another spot, later called the land owner to make sure he was cool with everything and acted like I was crazy when I asked if he was out hunting that morn..
Sun morn saw 2 or 3 in the field but was still far too dark to see if they had horns or not so had to let them pass. Today is last day so might have to make the finance' a little angry and try and sneak out tonight and whack a doe.
Definatly thinking about investing in a thermacell as i sit and scratch my hands while still trying to type.

My vacation starts on friday this week. Had it in the book before the ban and the EDS. So it is the first week of the season for me. My favroit stand shows lots of deer movement in it along with the others in the area, but could find no rubs. Another location has signs of bucks and large trail but have yet to hunt it, may go out monday and take another look, the second location will be all ground hunting.

well its been quiet around here .....well with the preseason jitters im sure its hard to type:lol: i took my girlfriends little brother out for the youth hunt sat night saw two does and he didnt want to shoot with a hole day left sun morning we saw a basket rack eight point and he tells me its smaller than the one he shot last year and it wasnt old enough so we pass (we also have a mangement program not to shoot the 1.5s unless its a frist buck) so i was happy he was showing great composure and sun night we saw three does and a little six and he had multiple shots opp's at the does but tells me he wants to wait to see what else comes out buy the time he decides to shoot there isnt any deer around:yikes:
owell he had fun and we saw enough deer to get us pumped for this weekend
but until then i will try some private land around here first.

Went out tonight on some new property-rained like mad. Saw 7. (5 does, 2 bucks) Hunting from the ground for the first time in years. Two bucks were both within 20 yards but too small (management rules:sad:). Was able to come to full draw on both without spooking. Tried to grow a couple more points on him. Had one doe cruise by at mach7 within 10 feet, never saw me. Thought of breaking out the knife and going for the ride.

well Friday night was the best night saw eleven does but no shot well i had one doe within forty five or so yard but didnt think the shot... sat morning seen four does but all stay way out...sat night saw no deer and was the worst.... coyotes everywhere i heard and seen it all... i had them on all side one right under my stand just as it was gitting dark but no shot either and as im climbing down it all starts getting closer and closer... a pack fight breaks out right out in the pine tree farm about 50 yards :yikes: well long story short it was the longest walk out of those woods ever had 3 coyotes follow me yipping back and forth for over 300 yards i have never had coyotes so bold, and seen and herd so many in one place what a experiance
and sun.... no deer what so ever

congrats on the buck!!
Went out sunday AM to my hot spot and saw nothing. thought for sure it would be a good morning. Must still be out in the corn, it's everywhere this year in fields that were mostly beans last year.
Hit a public land spot in the afternoon. Zero deer...and about a half a dozen guys walked by. I forgot what the weekends are like on SE MI public land!

Congrats on the buck!!!
Want to see some picts.
Dub D you should know on the weekends public land changes into pumpkin patches down here with all the weekend warriors..
(Cant knock them too bad Ive been there many times before and will be again.)
Dhunter, sounds like you need some serious varmint control. Personally I might forgo a day of "Deer" hunting and head out looking for coyotes, and if ya happen to whack a few feral pigs then you can really tell the old lady you are bringing home the bacon...
wildcoy73
10-06-2008, 09:31 PM
seen only two deer all week at 65 yards hit 4 diffrent spots.
Good news is my one stand have 3 active scrapes around it so it should pick up in a few weeks. the other three spots don't start showing deer untill the end of the month.

DoubleDropTineTrouble
10-08-2008, 11:04 AM
i think you can take just a picture of the tag that shows the weapon marked and submit that with the other pics. If you can get a pic of that and upload it into your gallery i will upload it to the photo entry page for you.
From the rules page:
1- Take a picture w/ you and the entire deer. (Not just the head!) A 2008 Michigan Deer Tag must also clearly be displayed in the picture. To prove what weapon was used 1 of 2 things must happen. Either the weapon used must be clearly displayed with you and your deer, or a close up picture of your FILLED tag with weapon used marked off must be provided.

made it out last night had a 6 and a 12 walking down the dirt trail right to my scrape and without notice they bolted. at 100yards. had me wondering what was going on and than a camo cld figured emerged out of the pines.
found out the boy next door was out in the woods. Kid has a problem sitting still and was out walking the woods, he told us that night he seen one deer moving in the pines at a good pace and took a couple shoots (yikes) first shoot he killed a red pine, second shoot the earth.
He asked me what he should have done so we sat down and talk for a bit and than took him out side and watch him shoot. will be out today to set him up a stand.
As upset as I was I could not be angry, We have another youth trying on his own to become a hunter, and it showed to me that I am needed to guide this youth in all that is bowhunting.
Wish us luck as we hit the woods and work on getting this youth his first whitetail.
As we should all learn a kid out hunting no matter how bad is still better than our own hunt

Well this weekend was good and bad at the same time. Saw 7 different bucks in shooting range, but they all got passes this year....all yearlings. Only saw one doe, out at 75yrds and she wasn't thinking of coming any closer. It was great to get out and see some bucks, but the lack of does this year doesn't have me too excited when the rut fires up. All the corn was still up on the property so I know that's holding a ton of them.
Good news is there's a monster out there. 3 different people (not all hunters) have seen the same buck and all swear its got 14-16in. brows. Can't wait to put him in the crosshairs...it'll be gun season before i can get back. I hope he makes it till then.

was a silent weekend for me. Notice that someone has set up a stand right in the deer bedding area and with that my stand shows no sign of life. so I have left it and went to a back up and found a scrape within 20 yards of it and lots of deer sign. Hope this will improve my luck for the season.

Headed out yesterday again on public land to hang a stand for the weekend...Done with that by 2pm. Man it was hot. Had a button buck come in about 45 mins later and hang out under my stand for about 15 minutes. Then later some major crashing through the brush 45 minutes before sundown. I start getting excited, thinking something nice is coming out from the bedding area, get turned and set for the shot as soon as this thing clears the lane..... nope, just another hunter. Now i've had nights where i can't get out till late, so i can't be too made but i try to slip in on the trails and find a spot close to the road as quitely as possible....not go trapsing through the heavy cover 45 mins to sundown. Had another one come through too far off right at dark. I'm finding the young bucks are
starting to respond somewhat to the doe bleats. It'll happen eventually.
anyone getting out this weekend, or just letting the woods quite down and starting to gear up for the gun opener??

Well boys I don't know what the deal is....Haven't seen any bucks at my hot spot since last Monday. i took the 11 and 12 off hoping to catch some big boys cruising or chasing. I'll be in the tree the 15th and 16th with a bow, but after that i will lay off until december. Good luck guys on the opener..start stacking up some points...we're behind!!!!

Best day yet of the season. Was with a buddy doing a bit of stalking and putting up the the final work on the gun blinds, when I spoted two does I was caught in the middle of an open area. we played with them for a bit and a spike comes in than a 4 point, and an 8 point. Had one other large buck but could not get a good look at his gear. We have these deer doing circles around us for two hour untill I blew it.
the eight point comes running in 20 yards behind and I see my budy looking for a shot so I waited a minute and when I see he could not draw I tried to turn on the deer and take a shot but he jumped off and went back into the thicket and walked around in it for a while. this all started at 1pm we seen our last deer at 4pm and never had a time when we could not see deer.
Good thing is, this is 50 yards from my gun blind.

Had a nice tall 6 come in friday night, but passed on him. at 1.5 he'll be a nice one next year. Gonna try to make it out once more before the gun opener. Then the action starts. 11 different bucks were seen when the corn was picked. I'm holdin out for an 8 or better the first 2 weeks. Hopefully can finally connect on a doe too.

10am monday morning...just getting ready to get down from the stand and walk to another stand. Stand up and see a group of 4 does come in off the corn field behind me. They were dead downwind with a good 15mph wind coming in. There was a bigger one in the group that i was waiting to step out from behind a group of oaks when this one busted me. She stomped her legs twice and put the rest on high alert. When she picked it up a third time to stomp, it never made it back to the ground. Bucked up and took off on a 60 yrd death run. I didn't see her drop because i was trying to get the bigger one in the crosshairs as she was going through the woods. Easy track job on this one. That's the entrance hole in the pictures. Buckhammers really put the hurt on her.
DNR aged her 1.5. Weighed in at 130lbs. I thought for sure she was older from her size. I'm not really good at guessing that kind of stuff in the field. I'd say she's been eating some corn this year. The farmer will be happy to know she's out of the herd.
I'll post this for the points today.

Well had a great trip up to deer camp as always I did not see any bucks that were shooters (by our camp rules) did shoot a nice sized doe I will post for points. There were two nice eight points shot in our group and nine does trying to get the buck doe ratio more in line I had as many as 14 does on my field at a time. We saw lots of 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks this year should be good next year and in the future for trophy size bucks. Going to hunt some state land this weekend with different buck standards so will see what happens.
Nice job to all on the deer that have been shot keep the points coming.

Connected with my first Buck this morning at about 10:30. Nice (either small 8 or large 6) took him on state land in Rose City area. Will post pictures soon. I think for scoring he will be judged as a large 6 as two of his tines are under an inch long but he does have 8 points total..

What are you shootin there? Looks like its got a good heavy barrel on it.

Thanks guys, yea first "buck" ever (I got a button last year by accident so not really a buck). Had to laugh guys in the group have been hunting for 30+ years and I come out and shoot the 2nd biggest the camp has ever taken. They were happy for me on the surface but im sure under their breath they were grumbling a little.
Yea thats my savage 112 FVSS in 7MM. Kinda funny its technically concidered a "varmint" rifle being all stainless with the fluted bull barrel. But I have yet to find some one who is willing to shoot varmits with a 7mm.
Hoping to make it out to the farm this weekend some time but the farmer says the other people he lets hunt it got 10 doe permits and they are still hunting it so we will have to see. Might be able to squeeze in for late doe season or borrow a buddies ML and take one then...
Good luck to everyone and have a safe and happy holiday.

Not bad boys 5th place over all. A couple more deer and we could easily jump up into 3rd. Anybody been out lately or seeing anything?
Trying to convince the wifie I need a muzzlerloader but I dont think shes buying into it yet, gotta keep trying tho...
The good thing she has learned is not to plan ANYTHING around hunting season. We were talking about having a little one and the only time it would work is July so the baby would be around in March/April and then would be 6months old sos not to mess up any seasons. I def got a keeper there..

Well guys sorry to say I can not add anymore points to the team.
Today I took my last buck that I have been watching for a few weeks.
This boy antlers dropped straight down his head. Probably from the injury to his front leg double fracture and both threw the skin. One at the shoulder the other at his knee. Never had the best look at his points but I could see atleast six three to a side but had a gap at the jaw and I could not tell if a point was their or not.
Well today before work, I work second shift hours, I see him limping across the feild heading to my apple trees. So I get the bow and go into the back and sit in the pop-up. About 10 minutes latter he is 15 yards away broadside and his antlers have both fallen off. Knowing he is wounded and my household will make good use of the meat I go for the kill. hit him a bit high but still double lungs and watch him go 15 yards and drop.
Have to say it is sweet to watch that, and to top it off the wife watched the whole thing from the house.
Will get pics of his leg posted latter.
Good luck all and have fun.
May still go get another private land anterless tag and play around in the late anterless season.

Hey guys. Haven't been on in a while. Partial layoff has forced me to take on a second job, which has crushed all chances of getting out again with the bow. Hopefully i can sneak out for a little muzzy hunt before xmas. Kinda wishin I hadn't passed on all the 6's this year....was holdin for an 8 or better, but it looks like its my last year at that spot.
Goodluck to those still going at it.
