I made it out Thursday and Friday morning. Didn't make it out this weekend at all. Of course Thursday morning I seen five deer.....all bucks. They wouldn't have been shooters though. Just a couple of 6 pts, a 4 pt and the other two I couldn't really tell. But they were definitely youngsters, next years bucks or the year after. My Dad took a doe Friday morning and I get a big kick out of that. He's 75 years old and I enjoy having him out there hunting with me. I don't think I'll make it out again until October 1st. Then the real excitement starts.

Well I shot my bull with a bow. And had a great time doing it! I don't gun hunt very much anymore. I am located up in Ludington and I am more then ready to get my hunt started! You guys seeing any big bucks?

Well guys, I was off this past Tues and went up to Lapeer to check out some new spots to hunt (I know kinda late, but work has been crazy) and I couldn't find one track after 2 miles of walking. I hunted Caro a lot last year and may just go back to my spot over there. Saw a couple doe there and across the street where my buddy hunted we found a few nice rubs. So I may head there and try my luck again. I have the 1st off which should mean good times then I'm off the following weekend and am making my U.P. trip. Good luck to all,

1.Yes, We were waiting on some muliefeaver guy that was out wack'en elk with a stick and string.
2. I will not start bow hunting till the 3rd week of the season. (I signed up for the gun hunt) But I will be hunting opening weekend of firearm and have Monday and tursday off also.
3. Not yet..seen 2 bucks during the spring turkey hunt but the antlers were just getting started. Went out one after noon during early doe and did not see any rubs or any thing??...Went out Saturday night on a youth hunt and did not see any thing..execpt the mosquito's tore us up!!!!!

I don't think I'll make it out until Friday morning. I went out a couple of times during the early doe season. Of course all I had come by me were bucks. They were all youngsters so I wouldn't have taken them anyway. But I like the idea of what could be for next year.

Ill be out tommorw night for the opener i have 3 stand locations set my first spot i have seen mainly doe activity with 2 smaller bucks showing their faces occasionally my second spot is probably my best spot ive got my eye on a nice shooter 8 point and ive heard there is a hog of a 11 pointer in the area. hows everyone else looking for the opener?

Anyone have any luck yesterday? I went out in the morning. Seen two does on the way back in but that was it. I'll be back out Friday morning and for both morning and evening on Saturday.

I seen a really nive 8 pt. He was about 80 yds away. He had his head down low and was running a trail acting like he was chasing a doe. Little early yet isn't it? This is only my second whitetail season, so I could be wrong!

well guys i screwed up i was walking out to my stand tonight and a big 8 point was standing 30 yards from me broad side unfortunatly he saw me about the same time i saw him and he was gone, he had to of ran right past my trail cam ill check it tommorow if he is on it ill post a pic.

No I did not weigh him. But He was pretty good size I think. I used the winch on my Arctic Cat to hang him:)

I have not had a chance to get out yet!!! The first chance for me to get out will be next Sunday. I signed up for gun so if I get a bow kill it will not count in the contest:( I was not sure how much time i was/am going to get to bow hunt. I took some time off work to gun hunt with my boy. Football will almost be done depending on how we do in the playoffs. We are 6-0 now and clinched a spot so we are now trying to secure home field.

Sorry I haven't been on lately, I've been on midnight turn at work and have been a little tired when I've been getting home in the morning. I'm not on midnights for 3 more weeks, so I'll be in good shape now.

I got out on the opener and saw one doe but she was too far away, and I had a chance to go out last night and I think that same doe was about 30 yards away from me when I was walking to my stand. She was there early because I got there at 2pm (I know I was extremely early, but I was off work at 7am and didn't want to sit around any more). Maybe there'll be a nice buck folowing her in a couple weeks when I get to head back to Lapeer.

This weekend I am heading to the U.P. and am going to hunt my little honey hole up there, so hopefully it'll still produce. I didn't hunt it at all last year because I wanted to give it a break but figured it's about time to see if things are still happening there.

Congrats mulie nice buck!!!!! well guys i screwed up! I shot a nice 3 1/2 year old doe sat night but didn't find her t'll sunday. with all the panic of getting her cleaned and to the butcher because of the WARM! weather I forgot to take a pic.:mad: I guess I will just have to shoot another one:D

Well I only made it out Saturday morning. Didn't see anything while on stand. Did run across some fresh scrapes on the way out though. So I went back and did a quick setup for a stand in that area. I'm hoping to get back out this week. This guy has really tore things up so I'm hoping he's a shooter.

I got out last night for the first time. It was a good night to be in the woods. I had a hawk hunting in the woods by my stand. Had a long beard cross in front of me about 45 yards out. I had Mr Button buck at 10 yards for 20 minutes till a flock of about 12 turkeys came threw. I was hoping to get a shot a bird but they went out of range to avoid Mr.B. He followed and was chasing the turkeys??? I have never seen that before. Had 3 does come running by then 4 come back about 10 minutes later one was a shooter but I let her walk hoping I would see the buck that is shredding the saplings in the field behind my stand. Right at dark I had 2 come in behind me. One was a fat little butter ball doe and I did not get a good look at the other one. I put some doe pee on a felt bob and hung it under my stand. It was under there and would not leave. I sat there for 20 minutes in the dark trying not to spook them off. I did any way while I was getting down.

Lots of action last night. Just waiting for Mr Big!!!!!
I will get back at it Wednesday pm.

That sounds like a great night in the woods to me. I made it out yesterday morning but absolutely got skunked. Didn't see anything. We're headed into the good hunting time now though. The temps are dropping and the bucks should start chasing real soon. I love this time of the year.........:)

My weekend U.P. trip was pretty dull last weekend. Sat out there all day Sat., Sun. and Mon. morning and nothing had hit my bait at all. Not even any squirrels had come along. That was the first time I hunted that stand in 2 years though, so I wasn't expecting much. I should be back up there next weekend for another few days so hopefully they'll be running around a little more,

Well guy's I missed a buck last night,
It was my second time in that stand. I seen all the deer in on Sunday. I even seen the hawk again he is cool. The wind was not good for me so I was planed on watching the back side of my stand where 2 came in on Sunday. I was sitting watching to my left when I here a stick break behind me to my right. I turn to look and its a small doe. I stand up and get into a shooting position waiting for the big buck. Then I here deer behind me to my left. The doe moved on and I turned around real slow to try to locate the deer to my left. It was a another small doe. It moved out in front of me at about 40 yards or so "dead down wind". I thought for sure she would wind me. But she did not and was moving on when I see anther doe(coming from the left) this one was tiny I think the spots fell off her on the way by. Then I here yet another deer coming it was getting dark and had a hard time finding it till it moved. It was a BIG bodied (2-1/2??)dark brown coated buck (6 or 8 point) The tiny doe crossed in front of me at 15 yards "dead down wind" and did not smell me?? The buck was headed right threw one of my shooting lanes I had a hard time finding him in my peep but when I did he just stopped in my lane. I pulled the trigger and watched the arrow fly just low underneath him. A clean miss he bolted off but did not run too far and stopped. I got down to get my arrow and I either miss judged the distance or pulled off low trying to watch the arrow (but I bet it was both)
I made a mock scrap at 28 yards (so I can better judge the distance) I put a sent pad with doe pee in the tree broke down to make a licking branch and squirted some #69 in the dirt. It was an exciting night never the less. I will give it a few days and sit where again.

Anyone goint out this weekend? I've only been out one time so far but I did see a spike, 6 point, and 8 point all in range just not mature deer. I'm planning on ducking hunting Saturday and bowhunting on Sunday. Good luck this weekend.

I think I am going to take my boy (15) out turkey hunting on Saturday and see if we can get one for the smoker!!!! Deer on sunday for sure!!!!

I went out last night and did not see any thing. Tuesday I had a 1-1/2 year old 6 point at 40 yards and did not shoot. He was making scrapes and eating leaves for about 1/2 hour out in front of me. When he was leaving I tried to grunt him back but was not interested I even tried the "can" but he just walked off. He had a very small body but was carrying about an 16" wide rack and the longest tine was 5" or so.
I talked to my mom and my nephew took a big doe and has been passing on the little buck's he has seen. He is 19 and would shoot the little bucks but 2 years ago we made an agreement to let them go and shoot a doe. So there maybe some good bucks out there???
Beans picked now and the only corn around me is my mom's. I have bumped deer that were on the edge of the corn the lat two nights on the way back to the truck.

I'm hoping to be out there in the morning. They just started picking the corn in the area so I'm hoping that pushes them up into the woods for us. We have been starting to see a lot of scrape activity. It should be a good weekend to be out there. The weather looks pretty good too.

Well I only made it out Friday morning. I seen seven which was nice. I had a buck chasing a doe about 50 yards away. They stayed in the thick brush of the woods then headed out into a corn field. I never seen them after that but what a neet experience. That buck was grunting up a storm chasing that doe around. At one point he stopped and I used a doe bleat to try and make him think there was another doe there but he wasn't buying it. Oh well maybe this week.

nice buck mustang. ive been in the stand more often than not and i have been seeing some bucks start chasing and they have been responding to my "can" and grunts however i am not seeing anything with size to it mainly just 1.5 year olds. im going to keep on waiting for a big boy, good luck guys.

Way to go Mustang....I have not been out sense Sunday am. I saw 1 small doe. The wife is out of town this week and with the time change(HATE IT) I will have to wait till Saturday to get back out. I am going to change my vacation day's around to get out during the week next week.

hey guys tonight i grunted in a small 6point and well i couldnt resist so i ended up letting the air out of him. have yet to see a good size shooter this year so i decided to just go ahead and take this little guy. about an hour after i got out my buddy drove by and said within 50 yards of where i was sitting 2 bucks were locked up, and another came running out. i guess that is just how it goes...ill put pictures up tommorow.

I took a 6 last night my self. Sat all day Saturday and never seen a deer. I will post the story and pictures later. I have to dry my coveralls I got blood all over them. I'm off today and tomorrow and will be headed back out when my clothes are dry.

Here’s the story of opening day,
I went out Friday after work to set up my pop up blind. Weather forecast did not look good they were calling for rain. I took a blanket and chair out along with the pop up. I was going to do an all day sit opening morning. If the weather was good I was going to set in my tree stand that I have been bow hunting out of. I had been seeing deer almost every time I was out. I went to check it and it was GONE!!!!
I sat up the pop up in the general area of my bow stand. My nephew has been seeing a monster while bow hunting back in the swamp to my left. About 9:00 am rolls around and I have yet to see any thing. SNAP a stick breaks in the thick stuff behind me…then rustling leaves then more sticks. I was ready….the big boy was going to pop out any time now…. Then I see orange…One of the guys hunting the property was up walking around all ready!!!! He walked out threw my set up!!!!!….I took the opportunity to get up and stretch and watch to see if he was going to run any thing my way…nothing. Noon rolls around and I hear something behind me to my right this time….I am ready..only to see orange again..This time it was my nephew coming in to go hunt at his mom’s. I talked to him and he told me about the BIG BOY and that he had deer all around him this morning till that guy came walking in on his set up. He pushed all the deer right in to the thick swamp!!!! He told me he had moved my tree stand over to the big cotton wood’s where he could see the deer crossing from the thick buck brush to the woods then out to the bean field.
I worked my way over to my new stand location. It was not even an hour later when I could hear sticks breaking and something moving threw the thick stuff in the woods to my left….ORANGE AGAIN…
This time it was Rocky a guy that has permission to hunt the property. I got down and talk to him he said the guy that walked threw early told him there was orange all over in the wood and there we trespassers every where. He was out checking it out and told me he jumped a "dandy" out of the thick stuff behind me. He went on his way and I moved back to the pop up. I sat till dark and did not see any thing bit big fat squirrels.

Day #2
I decided to sleep in because I felt like I might be getting sick!!! I was still going to hunt the after noon and took Monday and Tuesday off of work. I decided to hunt my stand in the cottonwoods. The wind was gusting from the northwest right in my face. Every thing was warm but my hands. I got out the hand warmers and put them down in my gloves. It was getting dusk and I could hear sticks breaking and something crashing in the thick woods behind me to the left. I got up turned around and readied my gun.
All of the sudden I hear splashing to my left…I turn and see 2 does headed right for me I have a permit and was trying to see how big they were.(I had been seeing a few small does while bow hunting)…Then I see another deer…with HORNS!!! I pull up the gun and all I could see was fur..I had my Nikon 3-9 on 7!!!!
The deer stopped 10 yards in front of me. I put it on his shoulder and BOOM!!!!! Their he stands looking around like WHAT WAS THAT!!!! I pulled the gun back up and put it on his shoulder again and BOOM!!! He dropped in his tracks. He was kicking around a little so I sat down to wait till he expired. All of the sudden he jumps up and starts running off!!!!!! He was running straight away from me so I pulled up the gun found him in the scope and the cross hairs were on the back of the neck BOOM!!!! This time he was DONE!!!! I don't know what happen on the first shot??? Any way theres meet in the freezer and a few points for team #3.
