hi guys!

yesterday's scouting was great, i've got beans on one side, alfalfa on the other, and corn behind me, and a chunk of woods in the middle of it all. while i was out i kicked up a couple doe. the early doe season looks promising!

i stopped at gander to look at their scopes, i think i liked the Nikon the best and it was about $30 more than the Leupold XV-I. just waiting for the man to get home and set it up for me. i hate going to those stores by myself, it's so intimidating and stresses me out, i feel like i have to fight to be heard, and all the guys just look at you like you're a fish outta water. (little do they know i can hunt better than them.) men, its just something you wouldn't understand!!!

Either choice would be good....what are you putting the scope on? I just put a Leupold on my muzzleloader and it's really sweet (Ultimate Slam model). It's real bright & crisp....and accurate. I have a couple Nikons around and they're pretty decent too.

Hey Everyone!!!

Bluesun -- sorry to hear you have problems at Gander - our Gander Guys know me when we walk in. LOL Guess I spend WAY to much time there.

I'm still using open sights -- the area we hunt my longest shot is maybe 50 yards. I'm mostly hunting swamps.

We are going up hunting this weekend, so hopefully I'll have a flathead for the board.

Go Team!!

Oh yeah, I have the logo large enough for the T's also, but I just went with the Names -- didn't want to clutter up the T.

Just tuck it in tight to the shoulder & lean forward so your body can take the recoil. There should be no bruises. (This is from someone who ALWAYS misses her shoulder during turkey season & gets a dandy bruise on the upper arm!)

Hey Team, good luck on the early antlerless season. I'm heading up to Oscoda tomorrow afternoon to help the hubby finish building the walk-in cooler in the pole barn, then to go out and harvest my doe. Got the G2 Contender (handgun) in 30-30 packed up & ready to rock-n-roll.

What a depressing drive to work. Counted 8 does and 5 trucks parked at the side of fields and here I am sitting in my cubicle. :(

I will not be hunting this weekend though. The land I hunt appears to have 2 does and 3-4 fawns and that is it. I feel taking one of them out would really decrease my chances of seeing some bucks on the property. I am still optimistic that the 6 points we saw earlier this year will return.

No sorry guys. Went for my last weekend of salmon fishing this weekend. Finally got my pay off.

Chose to chase salmon instead of doe's. I never do the early hunt. Like to leave the property untoughed until Oct1.

Maybe Bluesun had some luck.

...and I'm back from Oscoda. I didn't get out, when I left, my hubby was still building the walk-in cooler. It's almost done, he's just waiting for the wire to come in to run power out to the polebarn. The trench is dug but the wire won't be in til Tuesday.
I did see 8 flatheads, combo of does & yearlings, in the backyard...so they're there. I just didn't want to have to butcher one up so quickly. I'll make up for it later...Promise!

Sorry guys, no flatheads here. It was just too hot to hunt, with no electricity at the property there would have been NO way to keep the meat cool. Saw lots of sign though, should be a good year.

This thread has become a ghost town. Buddy of my husband's was busted for carrying an empty bag of corn in the back of his truck this past weekend. $50 ticket -- next one -- $5000 and 90 days in jail no questions asked. WOW -- I'm almost afraid to go get the truck load of corn for the corn burner.

autumnlovr
09-25-2008, 07:46 PM
Huh? Sounds a little fishy....how can they ticket you for an empty bag? Even if it was a full bag, it's not illegal to own it, it's illegal to spread it out as bait. I saw a guy down here today (Romeo area) with a full pick-up truck load of carrots & apples in bags. For all I know, he may be feeding his goats. If I was your husband's buddy...I'd fight that one. Unless we don't know the whole story, was the empty bag in the truck parked next to a blind with corn all around it?

bluesun7602
09-25-2008, 09:50 PM
girl, don't even get me started on the bait ban!!! try spending a day in my shoes answering the RAP hotline. i'm trying to put the fear of god into people not to bait... people will do what they wanna do, but if the DNR catches them, they better have one thick wallet.

me and flygirl are hitting the 3d tomorrow!

autumnlovr
09-27-2008, 09:04 PM
So Bluesun, how'd the 3d go?
Right now, I don't know if I'm more PO'd or depressed. 9 weeks of physical therapy & I STILL can't draw back my bow. I'm heading over to Ninja's Monday to have them crank it down to 40# and I'm busting my BUTT with the strength exercises. I know I won't be ready for opening day but I'm heading out to Saskatchewan Friday (10/3) for a week, then got to take (hopefully!) the rack & pelt to the taxidermists...hit the dentist Monday & head up north afterwards. So, I probably won't get to hunt til about the 14th or 15th. And, I'll have to be extra patient with the bow cranked down low....arrgghhh!

BTW, you really answer the RAP lines? That's got to be either really interesting or really frustrating. Or, maybe both?

hookedonhunting
09-28-2008, 09:41 AM
Saskatchewan?! How exciting! My husband wants us to go there for our 20th anniversary. (10 years to save up)

RAP line - I'm guessing mostly commical. I work at a vet's office and I know how those people are. LOL

Found out the guy that got caught baiting was walking out of the woods with a bag. DOH! I'm thinking the CO said that after the first offense and they were caught with corn in the back it was off to jail with them. BUT, I'm getting this 4th or 5th hand, heck maybe even 6th. You know how men are.

We are heading up to Glennie on Friday after work, we may hunt the backyard or at a neighbors (that borders HSC property) on Wed & Thurs. Looks like the weather is going to be accommodating.

With all of the farmers pulling their crops right now I have over a dozen deer in my backyard. Problem is I have mostly does and only young bucks and I don't want to take a 1-1/2 year old 4 pt.

Good luck this week everyone!!! Go Team TNT!!!!

3d went great! trying to get flygirl to bump her poundage up a little bit, she's ready. :D

yeah work can be both frustrating and fun. it's always interesting to be called names, that always show maturity on their part. and the officers don't take kindly to people who disrespect their dispatchers. ;)

Hey...Good Luck to all my teammates who'll be fortunate enough to be out in the field tomorrow. I have the time but still can't draw back my bow. I'll sit in the house & do my strength exercises and MAYBE I'll be able to bow hunt when I get back from my elk hunt. Thank God for guns. :D

i did see some scrapes & rubs that look promising. we lost our lease on the 80 that i hunted last year, so i had to hunt a different field today. the spot i was planning on sitting at was so overgrown i couldn't even get back to it, so i took a treestand along the fencerow. i'll probably hunt the blind tonight. :D

Well went out tonight for the first time this season. Got to my stand around 4:45pm and my father in law was a couple hundred yards away in his stand on the edge of the Oak tree forest. Around 5:15 both of us were seeing does all over. I had a gorgeous big doe with late born fawns still in tow and another doe following them. All 4 gave me about 30 seconds each to shoot them but I am not interested in taking a Doe right now. Going to try and take one later in the year. Had 3 rabbits come under my stand to munch on some grass. My Father in law had 3 nice size does come out and feed and snort and wheeze at him for about an hour. Also saw a nice size fox that was in range but of course not able to shoot it. All in All it looks like the property has alot more does than we thought so hopefully the bucks we saw on the cuddeback back in July will be back for some lovin.

Krmnnghia

What a fantastic morning to be out on the stand. Crisp air, hardly any wind, and great temps. 30 min out and a button buck walked in. We hadn't seen him on any cams or while scouting so this was a good sign. Here is the scrape one of the bucks has left for us. Very cool and larger than scrapes we have seen in previous years.

Well, hunted all weekend. Had Doe's everywhere. Had a couple bucks in the area also. However, they would not come out of the corn but a few yards and mosey right back in. Had a great time just being out there, the weather was great. Cold crips mornings, still as can be. Ahhh....:)

Well, spent the entire weekend out in the woods in Iosco County. Didn't see anything Sat on the Glennie property except for tons of bear sign. . . didn't make me feel real comfortable but. . . had to buck it up and get to the blind. . . for nothing. Saw a few doe about 200 yards away and that was it.

Then on Sunday we went to the in-laws woods and saw a few doe and one good 6 pt but just couldn't get him to come down into the bowl I was hunting. . . a little different hunting the bowls without baiting -- they are sticking to the ridges the way they did before we starting baiting so. . .

Atleast we know they are there and we will be up there in two weeks for another long weekend of hunting.

Will be hunting Saginaw County this week and next weekend.

Well, I may have bad news. Due to unforseen circumstances. I'm not sure if th epic I have will qualify the doe.

1. it's blurry
2. only my arrow is in the pic. Car was gone, bow was in trunk.
3. not the entire deer is in the pic. I was unable to retrieve her that evening. Some one else retrieved the next morning and began processing on her right away due to warm temps. I had to work, and could not get a pic before processing. So the pic I have of it is not the best. She has no legs. I did put her on the garage floor and at least attempted to pretty her up a bit. :dizzy: I didn't do so good.

Let me know what you think I should do. If it doesn't qualify and I am fortunate enough to take another doe, can the second one be entered?

WOOOOHOOOOO! I picked up my bow last night & fully expected to fail drawing it back and.....I pulled until the cam rolled over! :woohoo1::woohoo1::woohoo1: I gently let it down & did it again! It's been at least 5-1/2 months since I've been able to do that! So, every couple hours, I pick it up & draw it a couple times, trying to build up the muscle strength. I guess the 10 weeks of physical therapy did do something after all. And, maybe I'll be able to do a couple weeks of actual bow hunting during the peak rut.....I am soooo excited again. The depression of missing an archery season was really getting to me.
So Team, I promise to do my damndest (is that a real word?) to contribute to our tally. Now, all I need is for them to cut the darned corn in the field next door.

Went out Saturday night and didn't see a damn thing. Although I wished I'd had my 9mm on me because I had a couple rabbits at around 25 yards and 6 squirrels fighting in the trees around me for over an hour. Would have made interesting target practice. Sunday morning was more of the same but I had an OK size doe come in all by herself. She isn't the Fat mama I have wanted to take...pretty sure she is still with her twins. But this doe came in and lucky little turd looked right up at me and I swear she strafed to her right for 10 feet so as to not give me a shot. As soon as she was outside my lane she turned brroadside and went right on her way. Smart little girl.

Later in the day we took the Mule out to check out the outskirts of the property. We had 3 total scrapes and about 10 small trees all beat up from our resident buck(s). Give em a week and they will be cruisin for the chicks! :evilsmile

Way to bust one Had. Very nice buck. Pat yourself on the back for that one.

I'll check out your article. Looking forward to it.

Now, get your butt out in them there woods cause you know that big bad one will be crusing by your stand soon, that dark moon is approaching.:evilsmile

I made out all weekend. Saw a few doe's and 1, 6 point came cruising by. I wish the farmer would cut the corn already. :smile-mad

so i went out last night... BRRRRRRRRRRRR. wind, hail, rain, and i saw no deer to boot. what a craptastic night. but, i have this weekend off, so i'm looking forward to getting some time in the woods. i've got to find a new place to set the self-climber, where i'm at is doing nothing for me.

flygirl shot at a doe but her rage didn't open. i just don't trust those mechanicals!

3 videos from the property. We have not had anything bigger than a 4 point for many years. For whatever reason the last year has brought in some great looking bucks. We have plans for a food plot next year so I can't wait to see what that brings in.

Ghost buck!

The Shooter...It's too bad you can't see all of him but the half you can see is good enough in my book.

i shot at a doe tonight... i missed. she was about 25 yards out so i used my 30 yard pin because i don't always judge my distance right.... shot right over her body. off she prances away. i know the bubble in my sight was not level, but i didn't have much time to set up the shot before she walked away. the wind was perfect and i still had 20 mins of daylight. so after i missed, i looked for my arrow, didn't find it, and turn around to head back to the car. get just past the fencerow, there's two more doe standing in the other field that i could have shot at. it was just not my night.

Been there done that one before blue. Don't sweat it. Shake it off and get your butt back in the woods. It is only going to get better from here on out. ;)

Well, I'm still up in the northwoods, seeing does & bambis & a cute little 4 point that needs to grow up. The game cam has spotted an 8 point at 3:13am. I'm not seeing any indication of the rut starting yet.....so back out into the woods I go. I've been drawing my bow back a couple times a day, just to make sure I can do it when the time comes. I'll check back in soon!

Nice blue. Now you're good to go.

Hunted all weekend. No luck. Corn is down so that is a bonus. Had a nice tall 6 come close but, not close enough. 4 point won't leave me alone. He's not very smart. Oblivious to his surroundings as he wanders around with his nose stuck to the ground.. Silly boy.

i can't get him to buy me a ring, but i'm building up quite the arsenal! :yikes:

The farmer was cutting the corn behind our beanfield, so this week should be promising, plus the snow/colder temps/rut will get the deer on the move.

Hello.....pretty quiet around these parts lately.

autumnlovr
11-21-2008, 11:20 AM
Yeah....too danged quiet. I have not seen a deer since the start of firearm season, NOT ONE FREAKIN DEER. And, not sure if this is good or bad, they started clearcutting the property a couple down from my place, there's only a long, narrow 10 acres between them and me. It could be good cause those deer gotta go somewhere. It's bad cause I can't hear any movement with all the chainsaws & chippers running.
Ah well....back to the woods.
