I'm kinda screwed. I have tuesday and wednesday off, then working 12 hour shifts every day til the 30th.
I'm not complaining, there are a lot of less fortunate (read unemployed) people in our great state, so I count my blessings to have steady work.

I will not be in the woods this weekend....October 1 doesn't look good either. My first day will likely be October 3.
Now that we have the Team name, rep and banner out of the way...
I have a few pictures to share. These were all taken under my treestand that is within 100 yards of my house. Obviously the pictures with recreational feed in them were pre-ban...

Let me start out by saying the banner looks sweet!
Now let me be stupid for a quick 5 minutes. I cannot get it to work as my signature. I've tried it two different ways, one error states "invalid file" the other states that the remote file is too large. Am I supposed to completly delete the [img***] or do I delete just the ***'s? Also, do I paste in the part where you upload from your computer or from another website? I was putting in the spot to enter URL from another website.

Hey guys. I was successful in taking a doe on Friday night, however, I couldn't find our camera and was in a hurry to get her cut up and in the fridge because of the temperatures so I was unable to get any pictures. Fortunately I still have plenty of time to get some more points as I plan on taking 4 more throughout the year and I've already got fresh backstraps in the freezer! I will make sure I know where the camera is next time!
By the way, I still can't get this friggin banner to work for me. I hate being computer illiterate! I really did follow all your directions so far!

Back strap - Are you going to submit the doe for scoring?
Also it is true that each person can only submit ONE doe for scoring right?
Last question no matter the size / age it is 5 points right for a doe?

I did end up taking one of the does, she was with two little ones. I just had not had a chance to get the picture onto the website. I'm happy with what I have seen so far for only being out twice. Hey everyone. Well, I finally got out into the woods last night. I saw 3 doe and 5 bucks. All of the bucks were 1 1/2 year olds and none of the doe presented a shot.
On another note though, my wife, who was sitting about 500 yards from me around the corner had 7 different bucks come through, one in her words was a "buck of a lifetime" which she shot....at. Yep, clean miss. She said buck fever just took over and she couldn't stop shaking. The better news...she is more excited than ever to get back into the stand. We practiced a ton before season and she is most of the time a better shot than me but you just can't practice with the buck fever you get when that big one comes in! Hopefully this experience will help her the next time Mr. Big comes strolling by her! Good luck to everyone this weekend, I know where we will be!:D

Wow, sounds like you and your wife had a great hunt! Too bad about the buck fever. You're right though, shooting at targets is FAR different than shooting at deer.

Hey everyone. We made it back out Saturday morning and saturday night. We are still seeing lots of different 1 1/2 year old bucks. I think I might have seen the one she missed Thursday night. It definately was a nice 8 point but didn't come in close enough for a shot. I had another smaller 8 point come in Saturday night. It was really cool as it had super long brow tines but the others weren't as long so I passed. So far in the 3 sits that we have had this year we have seen more bucks than doe. I really hope this trend continues! Would like to see more mature bucks but at least I know we have a good young crop for future years if they can make it through!
By the way, we probably tend to see more deer than most due to the fact that our hunting area is 98% tillable acreage and we only have a couple of fencerows to put our stands in so we have 120 acres (1/2 of which is standing corn) to view deer in. But so far, the good news is that more than 1/2 of the deer we've seen have been within shooting range!
Good luck to everyone!

Hey M.B.W. and Backstrap, Congrats!
10 more points for "The Brothers".
I did manage to get out (finally) the last 2 nights.
Hunted 2 different spots on federal land. Haven't even seen one yet.
The first night I did see 3 different hunters though, packed up my stand and headed out to different territory for hunt #2 last night. Nothin. :(
The temp was down to 15 this morning. Brrrrrrrrrrrr! I didn't make it out since I didn't want to set up a stand in the dark, with frost and such.
They should start chasin up here soon.

7 pt left side, 5 pt right side plus some small sticker points, decent mass for a 2 1/2 year old but let it pass; one more year and he will be a hawg. I had another first; I had a 4 pt with a wind sock wrapped in it's antlers go by. The wind sock was an American flag. I saw him again a few days later and he has since lost it.
It looks like I'll be buying an antlerless tag for this DMU after all.

Well done. Very unique rack. I took my 3 year old daughter out this morning and had a great short hunt. Well...we did more chatting than hunting, but I wouldn't have traded it for anything.
Good hunting, fellas.

Nice deer!
I have seen 5 different bucks so far and several does. One nice fat "shooter" doe in the bunch but all have been out of range, except for the spike I called in. The neighbors and I have a 3 on a side rule goin on, so no dice.

Hey everybody. Sorry for the long time no talky! I've been on vacation since the 7th. I went out everyday since then. 5 days in a row last week I saw what I would consider a shooter buck for me but I just couldn't pry them away from their girlfreinds! Man it was so frustrating! I even tried a decoy the last few days before firearms season and they still wouldn't come see her! Last Thursday I was able to watch one bed down beside a doe in a grass field just off the edge of the corn so I stalked through the corn to the edge of the grass and got to within 5 yards of them (knew they were somewhere in the area but couldn't see them cause the grass was too high). While walking through the corn to get to them I decided to grab an ear of corn. When I got to the spot I knew they were I threw the ear of corn over to the other side of the grassy area to try to get them to get up, which the doe did. She got up and looked the other way so I got ready for him to stand up. The doe started to mill around the grass and ended up going into the corn on the other side of the grassy area. I waited for 15 more minutes and the buck never stood. I then decided to try another ear of corn so I tried to grab another ear. I was having a heck of a time trying to get it off the stalk and just then he heard me and stood up, 5 yards away!!!!! There was nothing I could do, I had one hand on my bow and the other on an ear of corn!!! The split second he looked away I tried to put my release on my string, start to pull and stand up. Just then my release came off and the arrow came off the string, he looked back at me and was gone. Exciting stuff but next time I will remember to grab at least two ears of corn to start with.
Firearms season was uneventful. My wife and I sat together and saw 7 doe total for Saturday and Sunday. This weekend starts the doe killing weekend for us to get meat in the freezer. I will be back out with the bow after Thanksgiving weekend to try to get us some more points!!!
Good luck to everyone!

Opening morning was good to me.
11/15/08
Approximately 7:25 am
8pt.
3 1/2 years old (aged by the DNR)
202 live weight
158 dressed
There is not much of a story. I saw him standing in one of my shooting lanes just prior to legal shooting time, then he was off chasing does. I could hear him grunting and crashing around in the cover. I was hoping that he would come back out but he was a no show.
While he was gone I had a few does filter into the plot and began to feed on the remaining brassica. I would glance at the does but kept an eye on the cover he went into. The does pick up their heads when he came out of the ravine in the opposite side of the plot. I tried to stop him with a mouth grunt but his mind was else where. I don't like the double lung and let him run shot but he left little choice. I heard him crash and found him piled up into some tags. I did not find any blood but I didn't look real hard since I'm partly color blind.
I heard very little shooting for during the first 4 days of the season and my deer sightings are way down from the past half a dozen years. I did see a couple of 2 1/2 year old bucks and one 1 1/2 old buck. Very few fawn were sighted. I woke up Monday morning to 14" of lake effect snow and that really put a stop to deer movement. They began moving last night with tracks everywhere this morning.
I did get a few pictures but I left my camera at camp so you'll have to wait until I get back to post them. I'm not sure when that will be. I only have a work a few days between now and December 8th. :) If you need an advanced look I'm in 3rd place in the Rudyard buck contest or at least I was.
This is my first opening day buck in a long time. He was the fifth 3 1/2 year old buck that I've shot from this stand site. Every one was taken while chasing or following does just off the point of cover that leads into the plot.
I'll be with my daughter this coming weekend and Thanksgiving break so I'll only be an observer. A couple more big boys have been seen and not taken so my chances are good at filling another tag on a 3 1/2+ buck when it's my turn to hunt.
Good luck Blood Trail Brothers (I think that it's ironic that I'm on a team with this name since I need lots of sun light to see blood as red and not brown ; I found that it was much easier to learn to shoot well than it was to learn to see red in dim light.)

Nice work, but I can't see the picture. There have been a few posts on this website lately where I can't view the picture.
Anyway, nice work!
I will be out tomorrow morning.
Good hunting!

I shot this buck tonight. Too bad it was with my gun, can't count it for this competition. He never came close enough in bow season...
